Diamondbacks sign catcher Stephen Vogt to a one-year contract

TURBO

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Diamondbacks have signed catcher Stephen Vogt to a one-year contract.

The deal also carries a vesting option for the 2021 campaign. No word yet on the financial terms. Vogt, 35, reportedly drew interest from several teams this offseason after posting a strong .804 OPS with 10 home runs and 40 RBI over 99 games (56 starts) with the Giants in 2019. The veteran catcher will presumably serve as the primary backup to Carson Kelly next year in Arizona.

We believe in Pinottingham!

I'd be shocked if a trade or signing isn't made. Remember Yaz signed on 1/14 last season. I just don't get the level of anxiety this early in free agency / offseason.

Yaz was still available on 1/14 last year. I get what people are saying when they say it's still early, but the few decent chips for catchers are already falling off the table. At this point it's kind of either Jason Castro or a trade, and I don't really know what's available out there for a trade.

It could be Castro, but Avila, Romine, and Chirinos are FA and Seattle is shopping Narvaez
