Absolute humiliation. We are just overmatched by a much better football team.

First sentence I agree with. I would add "tonight" to the end of the second sentence, though. The Packers did not come to play tonight. I don't believe the 49ers are leaps and bounds better overall, though.

While the Niners are not 30 points better every game I would bet they would still win six or seven out of ten against the Packers right now.

The talent gap is pretty substantial.

What's amazing is that it's definitely possible for the Packers to be 13-3.

Possible yes.

Likely. No.

Even if you are chalking up the Vikings game as a loss, this is a team that should be 12-4. Nothing to sneeze at, considering the expectations weren't exactly terrific to begin with.

Very surprised they didn't come up with anything new on offense after the bye week. Niners have an outstanding defense, no doubt. But I didn't see the Packers even try anything we haven't seen before.

The other obvious thing is LB/ Dafety play is atrocious. Smiths are edge rushers, I don't mean them. But Martinez, Amos, anyone playing in the middle of the field is horrible.

Finally ST rant. Is there another NFL where there is zero, I mean zero chance of having a big return? Meanwhile our pinter is consistently booming 30 yard punts.

I don't know what more you need to see. It's not all that the Packers sucked. The 49ers deserve credit for being in Rodgers' lap all night and completely shutting us down. They've had two weeks to prepare for tonight. Two weeks. They had their "did not come to play" night against the Chargers just a few weeks ago. If they were out all night partying in California again then they clearly do not take their craft seriously enough to have any sustained success anyway.

That aside, I don't know how anyone could witness this game and claim the gap between the two teams is not significant.

On 40 dropbacks, the Packers have 78 passing yards. That's less than 2 yards per passing play. That's not bad or really bad or awful, that's ..... something else entirely.

I generally say "it's just one game" or silly crap like that but to put up a performance like that after having a bye and man.... you're supposed to be ready to play. I know this isn't the Chargers but come on...

Because I literally witnessed this 49er team have to scrape and claw to pull out a win against a terrible Cardinals team last week. They are certainly not infallible. Not even close. The Packers are just terrible tonight.

Because you've watched enough NFL games over the years. Are the Ravens clearly a better team than the Patriots? Are the Falcons better than the Saints?

We knew before tonight Niners were better. But one game doesn't tell the whole story. Granted, it's pretty clear Packers will have a hard time beating them in playoffs.

Terrible, uninspired crap sandwich of a game. That can't be argued.

Well, the problem is they played a terrible uninspired crap sandwich of a game against the Chargers as well. I'm generally benign, leaning towards optimism, but this offense is really bad right now. Aaron Jones is out there giving it all he's got, but he isn't enough on his own. The WR corps is a gimpy Adams and a bunch of young guys who just aren't very good at all. Then you have 53 year old Jimmy Graham who looks like he needs Life Alert, and this offense is just plain bad. I don't see an answer for that right now.

It's more than just one game. I can't get over the fact that any time this offense faces a competent defense, they fail. I can't get over the fact that this special teams is going to literally set NFL records in futility. This defense does some things well, but they'd have to be on a 49er defense level to carry this team, and they're not even close to good enough to do it.

They've won a lot of games that probably could have gone either way and most of the games they lost they weren't even close to winning. I just don't see much staying power in January, especially against this wicked field.

It literally and figuratively is one game. On to New York.

If you chose to have no hope for this team the next 5 weeks, that is certainly your right. Personally, I'm going to enjoy watching a team march toward the playoffs after not being there the last two seasons.

If I have made one huge mistake, it's expecting some sort of big "signature win" out of this team. A game where they look great on offense and defense and get a blowout against a lesser team, or a tough, hard fought crisp game against the tough opponent. Perhaps that isn't what this team is, though.

This is exactly it. Their record is fine. The standings are fine. Those aren't the problems. The problem is that they are a really bad team in a lot of areas and a really good football team in not many areas. They don't have weapons in the passing game. They don't stop the run. They don't defend the pass well. They don't play well on special teams. Even their pass rush ranks in the bottom half of the league.

They have Aaron Jones who does well, and Aaron Rodgers can exploit really bad defenses that he won't see in the playoffs.

That's not much to be optimistic about. I think they're a paper tiger.

The next 5 weeks don't concern me. I think this team is well equipped to win 4 out of the last 5 games or so against inferior opponents and then not do much after that against playoff opponents.

Perhaps they are. But I'd rather have a paper tiger that is playing meaningful games in December than just playing out the string. I think a little perspective goes a long way tonight. Do I want this team to be a Super Bowl contender? Heck yeah! Do I realistically believe they are? Probably not, and it's because most of the reasons you listed above. But they are in playoff contention, and to do that with a rookie head coach is an accomplishment. It might be time to temper expectations and hope for a few surprises along the way.

They're a 10-6 team most years that got lucky at some opportune times and did really get a win over Detroit they didn't deserve. They're 7-4 with that loss which seems right about where they should be.

You just seem overly dramatic about this to me. I don't get the paper tiger or no reason for optimism comments. It'd make sense if we were the Patriots but no one expected this team to be a juggernaut. They're a playoff team probably on the lower end of the top 1/3 of the league.

It's totally reasonable for a mostly very young team with a rookie coach to lay total duds like this in a development year. It would be nearly unprecedented for them to be in the tier of teams you seem to think they should be in.
