This team doesn't need to be playing its best ball in October, and it is unrealistic to expect an org with a 1st year head coach to be seamless this soon. For all that, 7-1 is phenomenal, and they aren't playing New England's schedule, either. I loved the adjustments on both sides of the ball after halftime, and am incredibly encouraged about where things stand now. There will be more adversity ahead, but a 5-3 finish nets a 12-4 record. I'll take that every single year, please and thank you.

And they probably get Adams back next week...

Aaron Jones is a really humble guy. Won't take any credit himself. Just says it's all LaFleur and Rodgers.

Actually, mostly Andy Reid.

I wouldn't have punted it, but I wouldn't call that a terrible mistake. Understandable why he did it, and they did down the ball at the 2. He needed his defense to step up, and it didn't.

I was commenting on Jones. Thank you to Andy Reid for covering covering him with a LB the whole game.

Aaron Jones is going to get some MVP votes if he stays healthy.

Okay no offense to Jones, but I’d guess he would get a grand total of zero votes. It’s a QB award and Aaron Jones doesn’t really have that crazy of stats as is. His stats are fantastic, but for a RB to get consideration he better be on some ungodly level we rarely see.

To be fair I haven’t really checked out the QB stats around the NFL, but it would have to be pretty weak to make Aaron Jones start getting votes.

Todd Gurley was 2nd in MVP voting two years ago. Ezekiel Elliot and Le'Veon Bell were 4th and 5th respectively in 2016.

I don't think he'll come close to winning but if he ends up leading the league in TDs I bet he gets some votes. Current pace:

932 rushing yards, 16 TD.

710 receiving yards, 6 TD.

TOTAL: 1,642 all-purpose yards & 22 TD.

I love Jones but I think Rodgers being on his team probably hurts his ability to garner any votes. Ultimately I think the only RBs to get any votes will be Cook and McCaffrey, and ultimately Wilson or Rodgers will win it.

Thanks, I didn’t know how far they gives votes out. Usually they just mention first place votes...not like the MLB where the lesser guys still get noticed in voting.

At this point Jones is on pace for less than 1000 yards rushing and about 700 yards receiving. He's having a really good season, but nowhere near an MVP caliber season. I don't think he's in the top 10 at this point. He's doing everything the Packers need him to do, and then some, but he's not one of the top 10 vote getters at this point.

@surrender_index

KC decided to punt to GB from the KC 40 on 4th & 3 with 5:13 remaining in the 4th while losing 24 to 31.

With a Surrender Index of 13.72, this punt ranks at the 98th percentile of cowardly punts of the 2019 season, and the 95th percentile of all punts since 2009.

OK. Maybe I'm a wee bit excited about Jones with the MVP talk. But I apologize for nothing :)

I think Jones is doing, like I said, everything the Packers ask of him and then some. I think if he were doing a bit more of the featured back role, he'd be a bit more prominent nationally. By that same token oh, I'd rather see him share the load and be a bit more fresh come playoff time

More games like the one he just had in Kansas City and the MVP talk will heat up.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Packers don’t give him the ball enough in the running game. Statistically speaking he is way way down the the leaderboards outside of total TDs. McCaffery and Cook are both light years ahead of Jones.

Aaron Jones actually has a real average to poor rushing yards per attempt. Now is that partially the offense line? Probably, but I think he isn’t even Top 20.

If he gets to 1100 or 1200 yards rushing, and has seven or eight hundred yards receiving, and gets close to 20 total touchdowns, he'll receive some votes.

As others have said, being on the same team as Rodgers is going to take away from his total. I think sharing the featured back role is also going to hinder him. I also think once Adams gets back and gets more of a featured role in the offense Jones won't be getting as many touches in the air.

None of which is to say Jones hasn't been everything the Packers have needed him to be this year, just that I don't think he's an MVP candidate based on what I think the voters look at.

In retrospect, I’m surprised the Chiefs punted on their last drive. When they’re playing with 4 downs, it’s really hard to stop a desperate team with talent.

I think Reid made the right call, there was 5 minutes left and the Packers had to get 3 first downs to ice it. If they don't convert ithe 4th down even if you do stop the Packers from getting a first down they probably have a shot at a long FG to put it out of range. It's close though, close enough that I would say 4th and 3 from midfield instead of their 40 you do go for it. And really even good offensive teams can struggle with the 4 minute offense, especially when they are pinned back like that. We got that initial first down with 3 runs, that was huge.

I know it’s easy for me to second guess him from my couch, but the Packers second half possessions up to that point were FG-TD-TD. What made Reid think his defense would come up with a stop?

This defense is still an embarrassment more often than not.

Careful. I've been told not to question it because all those yards are from garbage time.

I don’t get to read IGT during the game since I have to watch delayed on my DVR due to kids - so I didn’t see this last night.

The irony in your post is amusing.

Now, I’m sure you were frustrated with the craptacular tackling and D at that point of the game but I did chuckle when reading that post.

This is pretty typical of the IGTs. What else would you expect after the defense gave up 17 straight points? The frustration was warranted.

It has nothing to do with that. Earlier in the thread OSS went off a bit that people need to “stop the straw man garbage” and then proceeded to do so himself... hence the irony.
