Has there ever been a world series where the road team won every game?

This is the first time the road team has won the first 6 games of the World Series. The only other times the road team has won the first 5 games were 1996 when the Braves won the first 2 at Yankee Stadium and lost the next 3 at home at Fulton County Stadium before the Yankees finally won a home game in game 6 to win the World Series. The second time it happened was in 1906 when the Cubs and White Sox alternated home games. The White Sox won games 1, 3 and 5 at the West Side Grounds, at the time the Cubs home ballpark and the Cubs won games 2 and 4 at South Side Park. The White Sox won game 6 at South Side Park to win the World Series.

I think it was the right call.

Turner made contact with the first baseman, the glove is knocked off the fielder's hand. The contact diminished the ability of the fielder to handle the ball.

It was not a dirty play, like the one Machado did to Aguilar last year, but the contact Turner made did interfere with the fielder's ability to make the play.

16 million people watched SNF last night, while only 10 million watched the World Series. MLB needs to invite more Instagram models to their games. Instead, they’re kicking them out.

I was actually looking at this the other day. I was looking at the history of TV ratings for the WS after I heard that game 2 had the lowest TV ratings for any game 2 in WS history. Seems like the TV heyday for baseball was mid to late 80's and early 90's. The 1986 WS (Mets/Red Sox) had huge ratings. Most of the least viewed WS games have happened in the last 10-12 years.

My thoughts on this:

- This has been brought up many times before, but game time ending. Most of these games are ending after 10:30 central/ 11:30 eastern. Kids have school. People have to go to work. They need to figure something out with this. For one, start the games an hour earlier (The Super Bowl usually starts at 5:20 or something like that). Also, during this last season they shortened the time between innings (did not help as games were 5 minutes longer on average this year than last year). Does not appear they applied this to the playoffs. I get that it's a money thing, but it's adding an extra 20-25 minutes to every game.

- TV watching is just different now. Back in the 80's and early days of cable, people watched TV much differently. There were not as many channels, no streaming or downloading of movies, cable and TV in general was cheaper. Not nearly as many viewing options as there is now. The WS was top entertainment compared to other options. I also believe more people in general watched TV back then.

- See first item. People do not have the attention span to watch a 3.5+ hour game! We don't have a TV in our bedroom, so I've been sleeping on the couch so that I can finish watching the games at night.

I do get that by letter of the law it's probably the correct call. However, I think the rule should be tweaked. First thing, the base is in fair territory yet the runner isn't technically allowed to be in fair territory. He didn't make contact with the 1B, the 1B made contact with him. He was running the same way 98% of people going to 1B (without intent of rounding) run to 1B. He did nothing but run to the base. Either put the softball base in or adjust the rule to all them to run straight at the base, change the lines/dirt or something.

Plus, he was going to beat the play anyway I think. So Hou basically benefitted by making a bad throw. Though seeing a replay again now I'm not 100% on this.

Letter of the law, certainly the correct call. Turner's left foot took every step on the fair side grass except for the last one which was on the base. No where near the running lane. However, I've only ever seen that rule come in to play on throws from near the plate that are going up the baseline and the runner could get in the way of the ball. I didn't think it could be enforced on throws from other places and I don't even know why it would be.

I will give Holbrook credit, though, he was looking right down the line the whole time so it's not like he was lazy and just pulled some call out of his butt because he saw Gurriel's glove go flying off his hand from contact. He was in perfect position to make that call.

I don't really want the Nationals to win. That would be one less team that gets theirs while I am still stuck with a loser franchise. Selfish, yes. But if I am going to suffer, others should suffer too.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It was super blatant and deserved the call. The fact Turner wasn't that shocked tells you a lot too. He was running down the grass all the way to 1B. He is pretty clever though angling at the last second so he could interfere as much as possible, but still end up having his foot hit 1B in an acceptable spot at the end.

The video below is great. The last replay at 31 seconds or so shows it well. Sorry, you aren't running down the grass that long to first and not getting called for it. Not even sure how there is any debate on this. He tried to go on a fine line with the rule and lost...he knew it. At the point of contact (with the glove) he is a bit to far to the left...but that is what you get when you run down the line in the grass. He likely could have run down the line normally and had a similar collision.

It does get called at 1B from time to time. Usually on wild pitches where the runner can run to first....sometimes on bunts too. In this case a swinging bunt. Can't recall the last time I saw it called, but it does happen. I think many times they don't call it because there is no point in calling it if the runner is out anyway. Usually it is attempted to no avail.

Not sure what you are seeing. The link you referenced had several moments from game six and I'm not seeing what you are seeing in the video of the one showing the controversial call at first. So, as a right handed batter, you are supposed to make a direct line towards the right side of the foul on your first several steps towards first? Ok? As has been mentioned, don't see this called very often, if ever and to call it at that moment and basically reward a bad throw. I can't get on board with that. My biggest general issue is there is absolutely no accountability for umpires. They can do what ever they want, say whatever they want to players and managers, have consistently horrible strike zones and still have complete job security with no repercussions. Yet managers and players get suspended and fined left and right for arguing with umpires.

On a separate note..was not able to see the first 3 innings, but sure seems like the Nats are getting squeezed in regards to the strike zone....of course, as I type this, the Nats go ahead by one. I still think they are losing the strike zone battle tonight.

edit: And just to clarify. Yes, I have seen it call on blatant "running in the grass" sprints towards first. However, I'm not seeing what you are describing above. His left foot barely touches the grass a few times and I don't see Turner showing any signs that "he knew it" when he was called out.

Game 7 living up to expectations. Greinke pitches his butt off (I don’t think I’ll ever not root for that guy), then Astros pen promptly blows the lead. My only problem is that I don’t really want either team to win, but other than that, this is fun.
