The bucks have two more games against poor teams - Grizzlies and Cavs - then they have a 5 game stretch that includes 4 games against the Mavs, Lakers, Pacers and 76ers. That stretch will be really important. It is hard to have reasonable expectations after what they did to the Clippers. They could go on another really nice run after that playing 10 straight teams with losing records.

To think if Mark Cuban had just trusted his GM and not overridden him, none of this would be possible.

Just think what would've been possible if we hadn't traded Nowitzki for Traylor...

No. Just no. Just stop saying that. It isn't true. NBA trades work differently. The trade was done. The Bucks never had Dirk, the same way Minnesota never had Ray Allen.

It's amazing that this myth is still perpetuated by Wisconsin sports fans. It's been debunked so many times in the past couple decades that one would have to put their fingers in their ears every time its discussed to not know that Dirk was never going to be a Buck.

http://bucksdiary.blogspot.com/2006/02/myth-that-bucks-traded-nowitzki.html

Here's how it all went down on draft night (in a nutshell): Prior to chosing Traylor, Nelson called Bucks GM Bob Weinhauer and locked him into selecting Nowitzki at No. 9 and Garrity at No. 19. Only then did Nelson take Traylor at No. 6 for the Bucks. The deal was submitted to the league; the Bucks could not renege. Had the Bucks not made that promise, Nowitzki would have been a Dallas Maverick with the sixth pick. "It was prearranged," Mavericks coach and general manager Don Nelson has said. "We wouldn't have done the deal unless (the Bucks) picked the right players we wanted." Now you know the true story.

Aside from never holding the rights to Nowitzki, even for a second, the truth also shows it was Dallas who actually took a risk of not getting Dirk. Nelson felt getting pick 19 was worth the risk of Nowitzki getting picked 7th or 8th. If Dallas knew Dirk was going to be a HOFer they would've stood pat and taken him themselves at pick 6.

Correct, the Bucks never had the opportunity to draft Nowitzki. Mavericks fans play the what if game with Giannis because they did have the opportunity to pick Giannis and their GM wanted Giannis but Cuban wanted the cap space instead. It is well known that the Hawks really wanted Giannis as well with one of their two first round picks but they never had a shot since he was drafted before their picks. There are theories that Larry drew who came from the Hawks tipped the Bucks off so Giannis may have never been a Buck if Drew wasn't hired as head coach. A lot of things have to line up perfectly for a team like the Bucks to get a superstar.

I actually took the Dirk comment as sarcasm as I thought that was so well known at this point.

Memphis sitting tons of guys tonight. Bucks have a B2B tomorrow as well so it's feasible Giannis sits again tonight since Memphis is basically punting the game. Could play Giannis tomorrow and give someone else the night off.

I'd be a proponent of resting Giannis tonight as well. Like you mentioned, couple guys out for the Grizzlies, Girzzlies are bad, back to back, etc.

One of the underrated aspects of Giannis shooting more 3s this year is that's another 3 possessions a game that he isn't crashing into the lane. Slightly less wear and tear. I think he probably plays roughly 70 games again this season and not all of those games missed will be down the stretch.

I guess I hit a sore spot... Wow.

My point was more that what ifs are pointless. It only happened one way, regardless of whether it could've been different or not.

Giannis didn't feel like losing.

So? It's a message board, not a philosophy classroom. I'm sure it's regretted fro

Cuban's perspective all the time. The example I gave was a legitimate real life one, Nelson went to Cuban and said Giannis was his guy -- actually more than that, he was completely all-in on Giannis . Cuban said no to save $400,000 in cap space to try to make a run at Dwight Howard.

Bucks played like butt for 3 1/2 quarters and won by 13. Queue up the "they wont get away with a performance like this in the playoffs" comments.... :D

Hope Bled's injury isn't super serious.

I doubt they have someone go 9-15 from 3 for multiple games in the playoffs. Great resilience to fight through and win.

I doubt that too. Very much so.

Harden scored 54 points tonight, playing 36 minutes. With the Rockets up 21 points with 3 minutes to go, Harden was still out on the floor putting up shots. I get that the guy is a massively prolific scorer, but I guess I just don't know how impressive those numbers are when he's putting up points in garbage time like that. Giannis averages less than 32 mpg, and he sits out entire 4th quarters if the Bucks are up big. His per 36 numbers are pretty darn similar to Harden's in scoring. I know I'm beating on this drum a lot, but the guy is just out there padding stats.

Probably not, but it sure felt like Van Vleet did last year.

The Rockets will spectacularly flame out in the 2nd round or WCF so all will be right in the world at that point.

17 point win that wasn't really ever close after half time and Brolo played the most minutes, at 27. Really like the development that Divincenzo has started to show from season 1 to season 2. Kid has a motor, plays with a lot of energy, and does a bit of everything on the floor.

At 24-3 (and I'm not one of those "what if" guys, but this is just fun-with-stats...... the Bucks lost to the Jazz on a last second inbounds catch and shoot, and lost to the Heat on a furious 4th quarter comeback and OT, so they are like..... literally the equivalent of two shots away from being 26-1 right now, more or less. Their only "close" victory was the 121-119 win over OKC.

I'm pretty excited to see what happens when they start running into the better teams with the Mavs and Lakers coming up, but they already ran roughshod over the Clips and they beat Utah in the rematch. Coming into the season I could have seen a regression to 53 - 57 wins, just because winning 60 games back to back is dang tough, but it's pretty hard to not see 60+ wins at this point.
