Yelich to Astros for Correa, Tucker, Whitley

Recommended Posts

Astros are going to start to run into issues on signing Springer, Correa, etc. Brewers in return get their starting SS for the next few years, a potential replacement for Yelich, and a huge upside SP. Guessing the Astros would actually say no to this though.

I commend you for your aggressive trade idea here, but there's just no way this deal gets done on either side. No way the Astros give up three young (relatively young at least) studs in Spring, Correa and Whitley (especially when they are at risk to lose Gerrit Cole this winter). And, there's just no way the Brewers could survive the PR nightmare of trading away the franchise in Yelich.

I think the Astros do that deal in a second. Whitley has been MEH. Tucker has only shown minor league hitting ability and Correa is often injured. If I'm the Brew there is no way in hell I'm doing that trade. we have the best player in baseball for the next 3 years and word on the street says he's open to an extension (speculation).

It's pretty fair. There would be no need to add pieces like Woodruff and Hiura.

Those are 3 pretty strong pieces, Whitley and Tucker are the exact kinds of young MLB ready talent that we'd probably seek for Yelich. I don't know how worried we should be about Whitley, though. He had Burnes level struggles in 2019.

Correa is the exact kind of proven MLB talent that we'd probably like to get back as a 3rd piece at a position of need.

In the end, fair, but I probably wouldn't do it.

We are the only fans on this planet always looking for how we could trade our best players, I am really convinced at this point.

Given the fact that the Brewers are under payroll constraints that teams like Houston, LAA, Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, etc do not face, it makes sense they would make an argument like "Well, if we can't keep him what can we get for him?". Granted he has three years left on his deal so the very earliest they should even consider it is two years from now, IMO.

I love Yelich but I would pull the trigger on that in a second. Shame the Astros wouldn't though.

Why? Tucker and Whitley have struggled at the Major leauge level big time so far with some whispers that Tucker may need to overall his swing to have a chance to succeed in the Majors and Correa has had way to many injuries for his age. Myself I would rather have Yelich.

If you are a fan of the trade simulator site these are the values.

Brewers get: 144mil

Astros get: 133mil

(I think Whitley needs some updating value wise though...I’d tab it pretty much even)

Astros would never make the trade nor would the Brewers. I bet Tucker/Correa is way better productivity wise than Yelich/Random SS is. Like...probably not even close. So instantly this trade makes no sense to them before even taking into consideration Whitley...it makes their offense worse and they give up a prospect that was one of the best pitching prospects in the game before last season. I get Yelich has an additional year of control...but I don’t think it is anywhere close to making it worth it on the Astros end.

Sounds like some insane trade idea I would propose on MLB: The Show. Someone go do that and tell us how it simulates out next year.

It's great and all when you've got an awesome player like Yelich signed to a great deal - but if you look at the Angels, what has having Trout done for them? If the rest of the team sucks, it's of no use to have one great player. With such huge potential black holes at SS and C, why not trade your most valuable asset for 3 very very good assets to cover other areas? It's not like the Brewers have minor league players to trade to help the team, they have arguably a bottom 5 system in the league right now and really can't afford to keep trading away any legit prospect.

I know it would never happen, but I also see a trade like that helping for the present and in the future.

There are at least three reasons why the Brewers wouldn't make your deal. 1. Whitley was horrendous at AAA last year and has not proved anything other than he may be a good prospect. Much like what the Brewers have in Brown. Great until he moved up to AAA, then struggled mightily. 2. Even Houston is questioning Tucker's swing and defense. 3. Correa is a great player, but he has had lower back, thumb, and hamstring injuries already. At 25 he has already missed considerable time with injuries and only 2 more years of control.

NO. Take some gambles this offseason on guys like wheeler, ryu, etc. on short-term and high dollar amounts. See if things fall into place and it crashes and burns-then trade Yelich. He is irreplaceable where guys like Hader are not (only pitches when we're winning).

ryu = major injury concern.

Only the big market teams can afford to take the kind of risk that he is going to create.

This is the worst year to take a chance on a guy like Ryu. Last year would have made sense and not because he had a great year this year, but because you probably could have gotten him for 3/45.

I have no idea what the 2nd tier pitchers are going to get this year though. For a while this year I thought MLB teams may continue the trend of being unwilling to go 7 years on a FA deal. Now it's pretty obvious Plush was right, he's likely going to be the highest paid pitcher every without the deffered money.

Strausburg is going to probably get 30 million a year as well given the season he's had.

I'd like to see a guy like Hamels for 2 years and then a couple fliers. Something like Gallardo and Miley...and hope you hit and hope you can get Burnes, Peralta and Woodruff going next year with what should be a deep-deep BP.

And if you're not spending big on pitchers...you can re-sign Mouse and just maybe Grandal.

Then just hope things fall into place and that the late season surge is something CC can figure out year to year.

Nope. As a Brewer fan growing up (and still) who lives in Houston, Yelich would be great, but Correa and Whitley and Tucker is insane. Correa, when healthy, is is the top SS in the league. Problem is, he’s not healthy all the time. Whitley is young and is still growing. Tucker, too. Two of the three for Yelich+ would be a maybe. But otherwise, no.

You don't trade the face of your franchise after the first back to back postseason appearances in more than a generation fueled in large part by his excellence. There may come a time down the road when it makes sense but not now.

Yes, sign a couple of guys to minor league contracts LIKE Gallardo and Miley, two players we signed to minor league deals and one of them ended up being very successful.

Miley OK, but Gallardo has been horrible since 2016. He didn't pitch at all in the majors last year. He would be a waste of a spot on any minor lg. roster.
