No way this gets overturned...What can the catcher do differently?

 

Per the rules, he is not allowed to do what he did. Yes, the rules are wrong-but they are the rules and that should've been a run.

Not go into the basepath to catch the ball. If the ball pushes you into blocking the plate it is your fault, not the runners. There is no reason to have this rule in place if that isn't called obstruction, it makes no sense.

It sucks, but seriously, what can the catcher do there. Step away from the plate and reach for the tag?

 

He stepped into the lane before getting the ball. Pretty simple.

 

The throw didn’t cause him into the lane. He casually stepped there to block him before getting the ball. That is the rule.
