2019-09-26: Brewers (Anderson) at Reds (Castillo) [Brewers win, 5-3]

Eye Black
Shaw had a ball called a strike in that AB. Ball 4 was off the corner.

Not sure what AB you are talking bout, but in the 4th inning there were two called strikes. Both straight down the middle according to MLB.com. Ball 4 (Pitch 6) is a strike on MLB.com. It caught the inside edge just barely.

It'll be 3rd time through for Anderson starting the 5th inning. I wonder if CC makes the move today or lets him try to get a little deeper? I think I would let him start the 5th.

That throw. Wow. Full range of ability is on display for Hiura today.

He is basically a wet noddle armed T-Rex.

This is a great description. :laughing

Well they did allow him to go deep in his last start if I recall correctly. Seems they would do the same against another inferior opponent.

I use Gameday a lot, but it isn't glitch free. If two pitches in one AB are showing up as right down the middle being called balls, I would seriously question the accuracy. A pitch right down the middle being called a ball is almost never going to happen much less twice in an AB. Usually the once in a blue moon it happens is when the catcher gets crossed up.

Intent of an automated strike zone isn't to entirely eliminate borderline calls, most proposed systems still allow that tiny grey area where subjectivity can come into play. It's more to protect against blatantly wrong calls.

This is essentially how I would describe his defense:

I really hate that Thames hurt himself on that useless head first slide in the 9th last night. Hammy's can linger, got to be smart about that kind of stuff!

Nice job, Chase. Saves the bullpen a little.

Honestly we might have to play Shaw instead of Hiura in the playoffs.

Yeah that's not going to happen IMO. A .940 OPS bat is still a .940 OPS bat. Especially against the gauntlet of lefties the Dodgers have if we face them.

I'm not advocating Hiura doesn't get to play in the playoffs but a fear of mine is that he makes big mistakes and costs us large in the playoffs. You do that at the wrong time for a franchise and that is all you get known for.
