2019-09-22: Pirates (Williams) at Brewers (Woodruff) [Brewers win, 4-3]

Eye Black

The bolded part has me rolling on the floor. Good for you though.

Still not a hit. Which is what was questioned.

Have you never played competitive baseball?

Laugh all you want, but that play is made often, and not just by big leaguers.

:laughing You gotta stop. You are killing me over here. Trust me, I’m not laughing at the idea that this play can be made at levels not of an MLB player.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

From Haudricourt:

Just chatted with #Brewers official scorer Tim O'Driscoll, one of the best in the business. He said once SS Orlando Arcia left his feet to attempt diving catch on Reynolds liner, that clinched calling it a hit. Went beyond ordinary effort.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Thanks! Apparently Haudricourt determined it to be question-worthy as well...

These things aren't perfect but given how hard it was and the launch angle etc the expected AVG on that ball was .780. I don't think that takes shifts etc into account though.

Couldn't disagree more, honestly. That's a hit the vast majority of the time, IMO.

I found it odd that the crowd today was much better than the crowd on Saturday night. I guess a closer game helps those things, but I would think a Saturday crowd would be a little more boozed up than a Sunday crowd and would lead to more excitement.

anyway. I hope that's not the final home game of the season.

It wasn't hit that hard, but I think you are underestimating how much spin was on the ball because he hit it off of the end of the bat, not the trademark.

I really, really want this team to have a stab at the Dodgers.

Yeah especially in a 5 game series, that series last year is still stuck in my craw, just getting a shot at them would be pretty cool considering where I was about this team on Sept 1.

I also believe that the Brewers stand a better chance against LA in a 5 game series versus 7.
