How many times in MLB history has a pitcher followed another pitcher with only one letter difference in their last names?

Marvel - Markel

Not that this would be a possibility to look up, but interesting none the less. Kind of anyway.

Barnes - Burnes?

Nice.

Wonder if they ever followed each other in a game last season.

Ok, the Cards won so we have to go take the #1 WC spot now.

I’ve been doing family stuff today and didn’t realize Cards v Cubs played early today. Your take is spot on. The division is essentially out of play now, so it’s time to root for the Cards to keep beating the Cubs until they are eliminated.

Happy to see that the Mets lost as well. Things are looking bright in playoff land!

Padres fired their manager today. What are the Pirates waiting for? These guys look like they have quit.

Who is the guy on the board who claims Hurdle is the best manager in baseball

I never said he was the best manager in baseball. Pittsburgh needs a new voice.

Hurdle is a great manager. Up until this year, arguably gets more out his teams than any manager in baseball, and not just the pirates. 07, with the Rockies, the ultimate motivator, going 23-1 and getting to the World Series with a team that had no business being there. Kinda like what Counsell is doing with the brewers right now.

I can't wait for Knebel to come back from Tommy John surgery.

Well hopefully he come back good...hard to depend on that.

Two bigger questions:

1) Is Suter a viable bullpen arm (I don’t think he will be a starter. At least not out of the gate)

2) Will they bring back Pomeranz

The pen has a tooooon of potential next year. But bullpens are also fickle.

Going through their game logs it looks like the pitched back to back three times earlier this year; May 14, May 17 & June 11.

Answer to #1 > OBVIOUSLY YES.

Answer to #2 > if Stearns can re-sign him and doesn’t trade Hader, we’ll have the best bullpen in MLB history.

I really hope they resign Pomeranz. Counsell and the Brewers LOVE to have guys who can go multiple innings. They love pulling starters early and using the pen. That would give them an insane group of guys who can give them multiple frames if they want.

To be honest it almost makes to much sense to not do. Though I admit Suter would likely find a lot of time in the rotation filling in for injuries.

So where does the Suter comeback as Clayton Kershaw rank among this season's highlights?

It’s gotta be up there. He has pitched multiple innings in 5 huge/close September wins. But this September run has been a huge group effort by a lot of people.

I thought Suter would be a wreck tonight after his water bottle that was supposed to last 40 years was destroyed before the game, but he just keeps on dealing.

Huh? His water bottle?

For someone who makes sure everything in the clubhouse gets recycled or composted, this was a heartbreaker.
