I feel like we should include the phillies on here. They are only 2 back in the loss column, and they also play the Nationals 5 times down the stretch. Best case scenario is them hanging on the periphery of the playoff race...enough for their games against the Nationals to all matter.

Done.

My dream of the Cubs and Cardinals both missing the playoffs is nearly dead. At this point, it would take the Mets winning out to sneak into that 2nd spot behind the Nationals. The Cubs would have to take 5 of 7 from the Cardinals, but drop two to the Pirates. The Cardinals would have to lose two to the DBacks, so basically an epic 3-7 collapse from them. Hopefully the DBacks have a good weekend so those games against the Cards still matter to them next week. It is probably much more likely that all three Central Division teams make the playoffs than only one.

The Phillies losing today is good for us.

I disagree. You want the Phillies still having something to play for when they face the Nationals in 5 games next week.

I like the idea of the Phillies winning at least 2 of the next 4(including today) to stay on the periphery of the playoff race. As much as winning 4 in a row makes their games against the Nationals incredibly meaningful, that would be too many and put them into serious contender category. So with the loss today, I'll be moreso pulling for the Phillies to win this weekend.

Welp the phillies lost. I wasnt really worried about either team catching the Brewers because if they did it probably means the Brewers weren't going to keep pace with the Cubs anyway.

Phillies won't be eliminated by the time they start their series with the Nats so hopefully they grab a couple from them still.

Tonight is like cheering for your left arm or right leg to catch on fire, but I guess I'm gonna be cheering for the Cards to win tonight and tomorrow, hoping the Brewers get another W tomorrow night. Get some distance from the Cubs. If we can get up a few games on them and be ahead, then we can start cheering against the Cards as as we look for the division in the final 5-6 games.

As I said in the game thread, I am not rooting for Cards, but I’m hoping for the Cubs to lose. If the Cards lose I accept it as a consolation prize.

A Brewers sweep over the Pirates while the Cubs and Cards split would be nice.

Don’t want to get too far ahead of things, but I am nervous about the Brewers shaky offense facing the Reds pitching.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Rizzo back in the starting line up for the cubs tonight. Wasn't expecting that.

they're getting kimbrel and russell back tonight too.

So much for being in a boot for a week and then being re-evaluated.

I dislike the day games because I can't watch at work, but I did like the 3:00 start as I could see the finish, at the very least.

Added perk of the day game is we know how this day will end- we're guaranteed to gain a 1/2 game on WC 1, and either be in sole possession of WC 2 or gaining a game on the division. Nice, no matter how you look at it.

Yea I recall being told on here that there is No Way he'll play for two weeks.

I think the easiest and best thing to do is hope the Cards win tonight...so you get a game clear of the Cubs(now you have a bit of cushion)...and then have the Cubs win the next 3(of course I'm assuming a brewers sweep over the Pirates). So this way by Monday you are tied for the division lead and still a game up on the Cubs..This isn't an unrealistic/unreasonable scenario at ll I don't think. Now, being tied in the division, you can look at things on a game by game basis instead of doing the math. I feel like looking at it in shorter spots like this it doesn't seem nearly as daunting as saying the Crew needs to go 9-1 if the Cards go even 6-4 just to tie them. That does make it seem really difficult, but saying, the Cards win tonight and Cards lose the next three, doesn't make it sound nearly as bad to me, or unreasonable either.

He is right around when he should be returning from the original report of 5-9 days in a boot and then being re-evaluated. So it was a day earlier than the earliest expectations of him returning.

If it was Milwaukee he’d be out four weeks past his return date
