Not a starter.

Starters give up runs every once in a while.

His over 5 ERA as a starter tells me he gives them up all too often.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I was just going to post that Hauser staying in seems like a bad risk.

Then he gives up a bomb.

Have to wonder if the pain in his back is affecting his concentration.

Don't know for sure, but he seems fine. I think he just threw a really bad 0-2 pitch as we have seen many times from our pitchers this season.

Yeah, Brew ... you were all about sticking with Peralta and Burnes and letting them take their lumps as starters. Why the complete 180 with Houser?

Burnes has a proven track record as a starter in the minors. Houser does not. There’s nothing that indicates this will work with him. Other than some people touting a “new” pitch that doesn’t seem very effective on his starts.

My point was that if he’s thinking about whether throwing IG going to hurt, he might be less focused on location.

But, yeah, 0-2 meatballs are all too common.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I see a young, big horse of a kid who throws hard and has decent command of multiple pitches. I also see a pitcher who lost huge chunks of 2 upper minor league seasons due to TJ surgery. I would like to exhaust our options of using him as a starter before determining he's a reliever.

That is an interesting take considering the results each has gotten at the MLB level as a starting pitcher.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave
