Biggest question of tonight's game will be if the offense can get through the lineup early to give Woody a chance at an at bat so he can hit a bomb before his pitch count requires removing him from the game.

[sarcasm]They should just bat him lead off.[/sarcasm]

I'm struggling to figure out why Paddack has been so effective. He's basically fastball/changeup with about 10% curveballs sprinkled in. He doesn't have a fancy gameplan by any means...high fastballs, low changeups. Against basically a 2 pitch guy, you just sit on your preferred pitch until 2 strikes. Very easy to say from behind a computer screen of course, but I feel like we should do just fine against this guy despite his recent success.

Paddack has probably been pitching over his head a little. He's had two pretty bad months sprinkled in there. He's at a .241 BABIP. He induces plenty of ground balls so maybe they shift a lot?

Similar to Chase Anderson, he gives up a lot of homeruns (with the majority 15 out of 22 occurring on the road this season). However, he doesn't walk many batters which allows him to stick around in games. Should be interesting.

Yup, pretty similar to Anderson. Limits walks and hits...also has good strikeout numbers. That allows him to give up more homers than average and keep a lower ERA as you can imagine most are harmless solo or 2-run homers. He seems like 2017 Chase Anderson.

As you mentioned his homer prone ways allows him to be notably better at home than on the road.

Just bought a ticket for tonight's game. As an out of town fan I'm a big fan of the 6:40 weekday starts early/late in the season. Tons of field level infield tickets on stubhub for under $25. Really good chance to get great seats at a meaningful game for a reasonable price.

I'm not sleeping on Lamet and Lucchesi (especially the latter, who seems engineered to perform well against the Brewers), but this is the matchup that I think we're least likely to take. Nice to see Woody back.

Guessing it'll by Spangy at short and maybe Moose or Shaw at second? We'll see if Hiura is ready to play the field. Not thrilled about that defensively, but I imagine Braun gets a day today or tomorrow since he'll be in for sure vs. the lefty, and maybe we try the best defensive outfield with Grisham, Cain, and Gamel tonight.

What was it Sunday that Keston got a hit but then was pinch ran for. Based off that I thought there might still be a couple more days. Thursday's starter is lefty so that was my idea for when we might see him. Plus with Spanger having a good night last night so maybe feel comfortable pushing it a bit. I brought it up yesterday too but maybe SPangenberger gets some legit pt at SS once Huira is back.

Keston did jog off the field after reaching on Sunday. So at least there's that. I tend to agree I think we'd definitely see him on Thursday if he's able...but like you said, with Spang looking pretty good the last few days I would understand giving it a couple extra days...though if I planned to start him Thursday I would probably have him PH both of the next 2 days.

The way that Spangenberg is playing, I hope they just keep him playing 2B and let Keston heal up.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I posted it in yesterday's' thread but surprisingly Spangenberg's stats this year were only like 250/275 going into yesterday and are now 271/292. Sure seems like he's been doing better than that doesn't it? I like his approach and all that so him getting some PT is fine by me, maybe we can catch one of them Sogard/Saladino type hot streaks at the right time

I wonder if we finally see someone else catch tonight. Grandal has now caught 12 straight games, and we have 6 more games before our next offday. Even if it has to be Nottingham, at some point we need to put someone else in there right?

Grisham(might flip with Cain)

Cain

Moose

Braun

Thames

Spang

C(not Grandal)

Arcia

P

Unless Pina is good to go, no one else is catching. Maybe a late game sub if the game is a blowout, but not starting.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I want a middle infield of Spangenberg and hiura tonight

From what Counsell and Hiura have said it sounds like Thursday would be the earliest possible day for Hiura to play in the field.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I get that thought, but he simply can't and won't catch everyday. I looked up the game logs on a few catchers with the most games played this year, JT Realmuto had a couple instances of catching 6 straight days. Yadier Molina recently had a stretch of catching 9 straight days, which is for sure the most in a row aside from Grandal currently at 12 in a row, not counting today. Even if Pina isn't ready, there's no way he's catching the next 6 games in a row. Today seems as good a day as any to let Freitas or Nottingham do it and get Grandal off his feet for a day. Can't let Grandal wear down and be useless down the stretch.

Well I'd guess the lefty on Thursday would be the theoretical best day to do it. Would be a better matchup for the backup C and Grandal can play 1st.
