I know some here said they are for bringing Thames back again next season because he went on a nice run for a while, but let's not forget we have seen him go on several terrible and prolonged hitting slumps in his time here, and most of it involves multiple strikeouts per game.

Most any affordable corner power bat is going to be about the same. And yes, Thames is very affordable.

Who would be our guy at 1st next season instead?

Thames is streaky, like a lot of hitters. Shield him from tough lefties, count on him for 110 - 115 starts, and keep him out of the outfield and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an .825 - .850 OPS. Dude has some warts but you know what you're getting. What the Brewers have to decide is if that's worth the cost of the option.

He still is good for about a .850 OPS and better against RHP.

He needs a platoon partner but for $7.5M I doubt you are going to be able to do better.

So much for the Great Cain turnaround. 1 for his last 15 now.

So 4 games worth of ABs, and he sucks again?

Yes he sucks > OFFENSIVELY

.250 .319 73 ops+ = as good as his defense has been, his lack of offense has really hurt this team.

Yeah, with those kind of numbers, anyone who isn't crazy knows that we are stuck with him for next year.

Every outing from Jordan Lyles kinda makes me like him more.

Just think of all the big name starters that haven't been as good as Lyles since we traded for him......

Moreso, imagine the package we would have had to give up for a starter like Bumgarner who would be lucky to put up results approaching what Lyles has done. Sometimes the guys that run this team know more than we do.

I don't want to overstate the important of finding a way to win this game, but it would be huge on several fronts:

1) WC race, stay 1 back and don't get too far behind, then the absolute worst you can end up after this unfavorable series and the Cubs' favorable series is 2 back. You're also starting to put some heat on the Nats at 2.5 back, so a possible backup option comes into play.

2) Division race, suddenly you're 4 back again. Not insurmountable. 6 back with 14 to play, yeah it's probably over.

3) Even if you don't WIN the division, it's important to keep it close. Want the Cardinals having something to play for up to the very end. We wanted the Cubs to lose of course, but them inching closer to the Cardinals with 7 games remaining against them is not necessarily a bad thing.

Tie game, got to find a way to win this one today.
