.. and so today we turn to Adrian Houser. A throw in piece in the Carlos Gomez blockbuster years ago; he watched as the other 3 pieces of that trade (Santana, Phillips, Hader) were all run up to the big leagues before him. Tommy John cost him a full trip around the sun and then some. Known by lesser fans as the guy who vomits on the throne... here he stands in game 1 of a pivotal series throwing against a 3 time all star, multiple time runner up Cy Young award winner. In a season where Houser started the year as the 7th (8th? 9th?) starting option on the roster ... injuries and under performance have thrust him into the unexpected role of 'we need you'. He has answered and possibly, pending this extended Jordan Lyles interview, has turned into the Brewers most important starter for an uncanny playoff run.

This season is writing itself. The story is in our apparent and now perceived lack of pitching. This isn't a season of expectation, but rather of hurling redemption. Lyles, Houser, Gio, Chase, Davies. All of them.

Dear Goliath, it's David. We're coming.

Good story!

No lack of pitching with this massive staff, especially with our secret weapon back(Woodruff)ready to be deployed at just the right time by our September Superstar Skipper, say that 3 times super fast.

This just sucks to not have Yelich these last 16 games. I would have been supremely confident of getting to the postseason. That being said this team put themselves in a good spot. I don't know how they did it, but who cares.

Time for playoff arcia to show up. 2018 Lo Cain to show up. 2011 Braun to show up. and Hiura and Woodruff to just show up in a uniform

A week ago I would have said just put Woodruff on ice and get him ready for next year, now I think get him scheduled to be ready for the wildcard game. Pretty cool to be in it with a couple of weeks left for the 3rd straight year, would be REALLY cool to put a thumping road sweep on the Cards late for the 2nd straight year. I hate them, forever.

Thank you for the accurate historical recollection of the Carlos Gomez trade. "Throw-in" seems a bit harsh, but Houser was definitely piece 4 of 4 in the deal. Too often I've seen history rewritten here with people saying, "Ya know, Houser was actually the higher touted trade piece at the time over Hader."

Talk about irony. Yeli carried them this far and won't get to participate in all the post season fun. Woody, a star in the bullpen late last season, turned great starter-will likely go back to that roll again this year.

I imagine the team will feel that it's important that Yelich be around them as much as possible.

I hope he is in that dugout with the guys as much as possible after they stabilize that knee. :)

Will Hiura return to the lineup tonight?

My guess is you will not see Hiura in the lineup until after the road trip. Maybe, possibly a PH appearance in this series, but no, not in the lineup.

Things could change but Counsell said explicitly on Wednesday that Hiura would not be playing in the field until at least next week's home stand. He called removing him from the IL more of a clerical move because there is no roster reason to leave him there. So, conceivably, he could pinch hit in an emergency, but then you have to make sure he doesn't hurt himself straining to beat out an infield grounder.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Then why was he reinstated? Just curious...

Because there was no reason not to. There are no roster limitations in September, so there is no advantage to have him on the IL, it just makes him ineligible to play. Now if a situation arises where they absolutely need him and he is physically able to make a pinch hit appearance, they can do so.

It will be interesting next year when players continue to go to/from the IL in September but for this year unless a guy is transferred to the 60 day IL there is really no reason to have anyone on the IL. Not even Yelich has been put on the IL.

I absolutely love these... but Houser was called up to the majors in 2015. Hader not until 2017, same with Phillips. Only Santana was brought up by Milwaukee before Houser.
