2019 NFL miscellaneous news

LouisEly

They're not the frauds, the QB is just atrocious but they have to stick with him due to his draft status. And I was one that said before the season they'd probably suck, just because this is what they do. He is going to get Matt Nagy fired. I never bought into Trubisky at any point. He is the same stiff they've been trotting out there since 1990. They have a bunch of money tied up in Mack which is wonderful because it's a total waste. He is an amazing player, but you really had to hit on Trubisky for that to make a lot of sense.

New England is the best team in the NFL, not going to dispute it, BUT look at that schedule. You could not get any easier. You literally couldn't, they're 32nd in SOS and it's by an enormous margin.

If the Bears didn't have such a great defense, that unbelievably asinine trade for Trubisky would be setting them back for years to come.

Given they have no draft picks to trade up to get a different QB, it has.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I can not understand why the Cards would give up a pick for Drake, who’s on an expiring deal. They have Johnson signed long term.

I think Johnson might be broken, but even if he isn't, I am guessing the Cards would like to do something similar to the Niners/Packer/Patriots where they use two running backs and keep them fresh and get them the ball a lot out of the backfield.

I totally get it schematically. Just that there isn’t much point giving up draft picks for a rental when you aren’t making the playoffs. Sign someone off the street to fill in for a week or two. Maybe if they extend him it makes some sense, or possibly just want to keep some talent around a rookie QB just to help his development. Just seemed like an odd team to give away picks for rentals.

Speaking of picks...

Steelers projected to get 3rd round comp pick for losing Bell.

Steelers forfeit said comp pick for signing Moncrief.

Steelers get said comp pick back by cutting Moncrief before week 10.

Seems like a dumb loophole that teams can get bailed out for a bad signing if they have a crappy year and can cut ties with the signing. They made the choice to sign him, which also takes him off the table for the other 31 teams. Live with it and cough up the pick.

I can’t recall exactly how their comp picks changed, but the Packers also benefited from this rule when they released Martelus Bennett mid-season.

New England is finally playing a big boy team.

Ok, they just need to take ability to replay PI calls off the books since they have no actual interest in actually reviewing them to possibly overturn the call on the field
Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

Exactly this. Clear pass interference with Engram being hit from behind well before the ball is there. And now the Giants corner is called on a pass interference that literally had the guy pretty much graze his arm with his hand and they called it. I’m really starting to hate reviews in all sports. Just eliminate all reviews and let people complain about the bad calls. They still get it wrong a lot of the time and it slows down the flow of every game whether it’s football, baseball, or basketball. Every sport could finish games probably 10-15 minutes faster at the least if they just got rid of it all.

What's the point of being able to review PI calls if they are never actually going to change any of the calls no matter how blatant the missed call actually is? It's like the NFL decided to allow the challenges without taking into account how egotistical and thin-skinned NFL officials actually are.

It seems obvious they're only going to overturn calls where the WR gets speared before the ball arrives. The hand fighting and jostling isn't doing it even when it's obvious. If they're going to use that stupid rule, IMO that is the best way to do it. It would be insufferable if they call every PI to the rule book.

His PFF ranking this year is a really small sample for a guy who's been solid his whole career. And who knows Philly's reasoning for cutting him. We are not privy to that info. Perhaps he just wasn't a fit for the defense they run. Doesn't mean he's done.

That and there's almost no cost to it. He plays one of the most replaceable positions in the game. He's been a good LB'er and he'd more likely be cheap to pick up. Also...BJ Goodson.

After sitting on the streets for two and half weeks prior to being signed by the Arizona Cardinals, Zach Brown has now been released for the 2nd time this season. This latest divorce coming just 5 days after signing with the Cardinals. If Brown finds a new home this season it will be his 6th since 2016.

No, nothing up with this guy though.

Could be just that he's not very good, too. I'm actually betting that's the case.

When he was a pro bowler with Buffalo, they still let him walk after just one season there. Now he's going through teams like a turnstile because his performance isn't worth even a year's worth of headaches. In the Cardinals case, he wasn't even worth a week.

Antonio Brown back at it again. It’s like he’s trying to make it seem like he’s leaving the NFL on his own terms and throwing shade at the NFL, but in reality his career is over because of his past decisions that will have him most likely end up in prison. That man has some serious issues.
