2019 NFL miscellaneous news

While everyone is laughing at Miami currently, if they nail those drafts, they set themselves up for a big future.

Antonio Brown released.

Someone gonna pick him up? Cowboys? Browns?

I don't think his NFL career is necessarily over, depending on how everything plays out but his season is. The Civil case won't be complete this season and can't see any team picking him up with all of the baggage he now has.

His career very well may be over because he's not very young. I'd guess the season is, then this whole thing plays out, if it has merit he probably gets suspended, by the time he's out he's 32 or something and hasn't played and then there is the question who wants to take a chance. If he were 27, he would have an epiphany and someone would absolutely sign him but the age combined with the whole thing may spell the end. Dez Bryant is the same age.

His season is definitely over and he won’t be picked up until all this is done, at best. When I saw he was sending messages to the newest accuser...man what an idiot. Shut your mouth already. It doesn’t make him guilty, but man he just cannot he a normal adult for 24 hours.

It was hilarious seeing all the Patriot fans defending him in various Twitter threads last night.

"This isn't harassment!" "It's not intimidation. Nice click bait!"

I've already said this, but I'll say it again, if I'm the Dolphins, I'm trading out of that top spot this year and looking at this as a two year tank-fest. Might as well just tank the following year when you've got Lawrence coming out.

Draft your OL, pick up some pass rushers and then the following year start to spend that 200 million they've got in cap room, draft Lawrence and some weapons. Lawrence's upside is just far higher than Tua's.

I mean, can't say you are wrong. They are so freakin' bad though they likely draft #1 again next year. They could certainly slide down ever so slightly and still be Top 10 while gaining valuable future picks. Maybe just draft a different player #1 not named a QB, Chase Young?

The tank job is more about not spending all that cap space. I see them just taking the QB this draft, really don't see them trying to tank it two years in a row like that. At least not to the point they draft #1 and grab Lawrence.

Or trade out of the top spot next year for picks in 2021 that they can use to trade up to #1 in 2021 if they don't finish with the worst record. They already have a bunch of extra picks in 2021 that they should be able to do it.

That being said, I'm not convinced that Lawrence is better than Tua, at least not that much better.

I really don't know...I've been so wrong on so many College QB's lately. Wentz, Mahomes, Watson...and others, that you're probably right. I mean....I think everyone was a little wrong on them otherwise they'd have been taken 1-2, but I just did not see Mahomes becoming a good starter for 3 years at least. I thought he'd be throwing 30 picks a year early in his career. Instead he looks like he's playing a video game out there.

BUT...I'm just kinda going off the scouting reports and it sounds like Tua's a obvious #1 pick for this year while they're putting Lawrence in that Luck/Peyton/Manning category of QB prospects. It is funny though, you see Jalen Hurts is now top 10 in these early mock drafts. If he's really a top 10 QB, and I've only seen his numbers at Oklahoma, but if his throwing ability has improved THAT MUCH, then Riley should be getting a John Gruden type deal from some NFL team. He was almost Tebow-esque at Alabama. Now that I've doubted him, he'll ending up being a Cam with a 75 pct compl pct.

Anyway, I don't think the Dolphins are gonna have to really worry about trading up in either of the next two drafts unless they really go nuts in Free Agency this year. That team is so devoid of talent outside of the LB'ers that it'd be hard for them to not be bad enough to pick first in 2021 also. Though I imagine you'll see a few teams actually tanking next year trying to get that pick. Whoever has that pick though when Lawrence is up, IF he's still as highly regarded as some have suggested, it'll take a ridiculous trade to move up and get him. Like a Walker/Ricky type trade from some team.

Not sure if anybody watched the game last night, TEN vs. JAX so probably not a ton of interest especially with the Cubs/Cardinals to monitor, but Gardner Minshew looks like a steal of a 6th round pick at QB for Jacksonville. He's a guy when you watch him play he just has it. Looks like a vet.

The other cool thing I saw last night was the end of the Tulane vs. Houston game. I had zero interest in this game, I had only turned on ESPN just before 10 pm to watch the first segment of SportsCenter and check out Cubs/Cards highlights and the Brewers too. I was annoyed because this college game I had no interest in was tied at 31 with :18 seconds left looking like it was going to go to OT, thus delaying SportsCenter.

Tulane received the kickoff, a squib kick by Houston, and had the ball at their own 30-ish yard line. In two plays Tulane scored the winning touchdown. It was pretty crazy, a fake kneel down on the first play to pick up 18 to 20 yards and get to mid field, next play a pretty pass over the middle that Houston's defense defended poorly and failed to make a tackle on and just like that the game was over. It's a highlight worth looking up.

Does he though? It feels like he's this scrappy underdog and that's more of a factor than him actually being this enormous steal. Similar kinda to if Joe Callahan would have started a few games and played well in them. He is an easy guy to root for though...and it's tough to argue with the numbers though.

I watched that game and two other things stood out to me. What the hell is going on with the Titan's OL. You saw Conklin and Safford getting dominated like they were the 89th and 90th guys on a pre-season roster. Those two are pretty solid players. And the second part, building off the first a bit, Josh Allen looks like he's gonna be a stud. He looks like a CB coming off the edge with that thin frame, but he walked Conklin back last night into Marriota's lap and then threw him off for a sack. I know the Michigan kid is suspended, but that is supposed to be a pretty good OL anyway and they gave up I think 10 sacks.

Baffling to me why the Jags wouldn't have just paid Ramsey this past off-season with how good that defensive front is and will continue to be.

I'm not laughing. I actually like it. If you're gonna suck anyway and you've been bad for over a decade, you might as well just go all in.

As for them getting the 3rd pick in 2021, yeah, they could. But I don't really think it's likely right now. I mean....who else could get even close to their level in the next 12 months?

It's even funnier now how they've just flat out stopped arguing that these women are OBVIOUSLY lying because they went back to Brown's house in the one case. Some even going so far as to argue that this was probably set up by the Raiders/Steelers organizations because Brown wanted to play in NE instead of there.

If he doesn't come back, will he be the greatest athlete relative to his sport/position to kinda be blackballed while still in or near his prime in sports history? Joe Jackson is the only other one I can think of. Snapper mentioned Dez, but Brown is much better than Dez IMO.

I just can't believe I wanted this guy. He's SOOO incredibly stupid. Even if he settles these cases and admits now wrongdoing, or whatever, just the way he's conducted himself, attacking one women, telling people to look up how broke an accuser was who's not even asking him for any money? I mean....who in the hell is advising this dude? Can they not just get him to shut up? Twitter is just horrible for...you know, society, but it's great for powerful people who think they're above the rules to spout off and dig their own graves even deeper.

Pats will probably just take the money they were gonna give to Brown and put it towards Ramsey though.

I gotta say that I’ve been very impressed with Minshew and think that he is the real deal. He recognizes when the pocket is collapsing, uses his legs effectively to escape the pocket, and has great touch on his throws down field. He just has it. It’s only been a couple games, but he looks like the real deal.

Antonio Brown just doesn’t get it does he? I have no idea how a man can’t shut his mouth and continues to dig himself a deeper and deeper hole by the day. He has completely lost it.

I don't know if I should feel bad for him or not. It's a real possibility this guy has very real psychological issues. Or is this a guy who's suffering from CTE already? You know Drew Rosenhaus is saying, "just let-your-lawyers-handle-it, Ok AB?"

I don't just assume he's guilty of the worst of the accusations....he may be, but I just don't assume it.

But he was STILL alright despite them. He was still playing in the absolute perfect system for him. It's like if they picked a team he could go to in order to advance his place in NFL history at the WR'er position by winning a Super Bowl, catching 120 balls and putting up a historic season and win a Ring...and he still blew it. Crystal Clear language in the contract that they could void it if he did anything while a member of the Patriots and he sends these vaguely threatening-clearly harassing messages to an accuser?

Dude, it's going to be so hard for someone to actually get you in trouble if you just shut up and let your lawyer deal with it. And obviously that's not right, it's just the fact. It's a civil case, and a tough one to prove at that. But you just can't help but line that bridge with dynamite and just blow it to hell. Not just a little gasoline and a match, you have to blow the bridges up.

I actually wanted this guy. I thought how he handled the Steelers sitution was poor, but I also thought how the Steelers handled it was bad. So he moved on, he's not a bad guy at that point, just a needy and annoying one. But...wow, just gone downhill from there.

That said, he wasn't wrong in the comments he made about Kraft or Big Ben.

Thus far, this has been a real ho hum NFL season. The good teams are good, the bad teams are bad, and I’ve yet to follow many compelling games.

Yeah, the biggest stories have been the absolutely dumpster fire AB's career has become, the dumpster fire the Dolphins team has become and then injuries to two future HOF QB's.

I thought his antics in Oakland were pretty obviously just an act to get released and the news coming out after that he sought help from social media experts on what to do to get released certainly make that look very likely. However, he's completely gone off the deep end since. It's definitely looking like he has some sort of psychological or brain issues on top of being a trash person.

Could just be the guys is a full of himself jerk who thinks he's bigger more important than everyone else and can do whatever he wants. Not everything is a mental disorder, sometimes you're just a jerk. Heck, I'd say most times it's really that simple.

Aren't you pretty much describing most of the CEO's or board members for the biggest corporations in this country and most of the people who run for or become President(on both sides, not picking anyone out in particular).

I mean, you hear about how sociopaths, the high functioning types are often the ones in positions of power in this country. It actually serves them well....for what they're trying to accomplish.

I think he's a guy who's narcissistic, who did force his way out of Oakland, and everything was going exactly as he and the Pats had planned and then BAM...out comes the accusations. Which he totally could have taken care of if he'd just have settled with her. He'd be playing now, he'd have gotten his 5 million, the Pats would be scary good. Instead, in a few weeks, they'll likely be without two of the most talented, but troubled players in this league. Though I do actually root for Josh Gordon as he doesn't seem to have the same issues that Brown has. I don't consider addiction a disease, but I do have sympathy for it.

I think I've changed my mind though. IF somehow the women magically came out and said, "well, he didn't actually do anything wrong....etc...etc..." and the whole cloud went away, I might be willing to see him back on the Packers for about 2 million a year! It's funny how not seeing a public breakdown by AB in a few weeks can have that type of impact on you! You forget the crazy and just remember the talent! Like that Ex that everyone has.

That's only partially in blue. My guess is he plays again for the most egotistical owner in the NFL in Jerry World. But not this year, probably next....and even then, hopefully after a lengthy suspension. Jones seems like the only owner who's willing to put his thumb in the eye of the other owners. And then he can rehire the team that spent all that time around Dez to make sure he was behaving himself and assign them to AB.

Jared Goff threw for 517 yards today. I always found it fascinating that no matter how many times it feels like the record has been threatened, throughout this era of lethal air attacks and pass first offenses, Norm Van Brocklins' record of 554 in 1951, a guy who never even threw for 2700 yards in a season, in an era of rushing game football, still has not been touched.

Instant replay needs to be pared back. Get rid of these stupid challenges on interference. Get rid of all replay unless it's a scoring play.
