2019 NFL miscellaneous news

LouisEly

I don't think it's like that at all. You can pass off Michael Jordan at 40 as your 3rd guy off the bench. Brett Favre was coming off a great 2007 season and there were not many suitors for him. He was five years younger than Brady and playing a lot better at the time. It's never apples to apples and maybe he had some baggage, but once a team has a good QB or even a young QB they believe in, they don't really have much interest in geezers trying to win another championship. Because if they don't win or they aren't good, you've really set yourself backwards.

Like I said, the Jaguars or Buccaneers might be happy to have him on the roster but I don't think he's signing up for that. You have realistically 3 or so places that work.

I also don't think Brady would just quit if he actually wants to play. There were a lot of leaks prior to the extension in August that he was mentally preparing to be somewhere else in 2020. Maybe the Bears, but I wouldn't put it past him to go to Miami or something just to get shots at NE. These guys are extremely prideful. And that's definitely one . of the clubs I could see just wanting to have him on the team.

That's another interesting part of it. Would anyone actually want 43 y/o Brady? I'm sure Jacksonville or something would take him, but I doubt he's signing up for that. It would have to be a team pretty much only missing a QB. I can't think of anybody.

Raiders? Steelers?

Any team without a QB they feel might be something would gobble up Brady. It is like asking if a team would want Michael Jordan. A team would take him and not care if he is total junk just to have him on the team for a year. The problem is a team wanting him and Brady wanting said team.

I'd still rather have a Seattle win. I expect the West champ to end up with a 13-3 or better record regardless of the outcome tonight so I don't see Seattle losing being all that beneficial in the end.

I'll take the cushion in the division. I don't expect us to win out anyway, but if we do, there's a good chance that will be enough for a bye.

To me the most realistic situation is to have Seattle win tonight and help in the divisional race. Then you cheer for the 49ers next week to beat the Saints. That would put us in the advantage for that tiebreaker if I am correct. That situation is better in my opinion because I could see the Saints losing another game outside of next week...thus allowing us another lose by us (maybe).

To overtake the NFC West takes a lot of juggling. Are we going to end up in an advantage for the tiebreaker with Seattle? From what I can gather it would be a strength of victory tiebreaker...I can't tell if we win that just gazing at the schedules.

It's plausible the Vikings don't lose again so in that respect, yes a Seattle win is better. Since I don't think the Packers are super fantastic in the first place though, I'd be fine with Seattle losing and keeping the dream of HFA alive. That puts Seattle and SF with 3 and 2 losses, the latter still having to play the Saints and they finish the year with each other.

If the Packers win out, they will get a bye. I feel pretty assured of that. I'm not as convinced the West champ will win 13 games. I could easily see a scenario where Seattle goes into the final game with 4 losses and beats SF. Conversely, the 49ers could beat the Saints and eventually lead to them losing one of the byes. Besides Seattle playing Arizona, there are really no crappy teams on the schedule for either of them.

I don't think the Packers win out either, even the rematches with CHI and DET don't strike me as easy wins, but I still see a path toward a bye which would be cool.

Until proven otherwise I won't be completely convinced that Bellichick isn't just sandbagging the entire AFC. This isn't the first time this conversation has happened, New England has been pronounced dead several times over the last 5 years. They can still probably cruise to a first round bye and be one home win away from the conference championship game like always.

If they go to Baltimore in January and get their lunch handed to them yes I'll he convinced the Patriot dynasty is over.

I can completely get behind this thought process to be honest. It's certainly possible he played both games like preseason games to a degree. Vanilla schemes, not showing either team too much, knowing their entire schedule this season aside from 4 games was a cakewalk. Just stay healthy and get some game tape to devise a way to beat these teams when it matters.

I've been saying the Patriots aren't THAT good since the season started. Especially those anointing their defense as one of the best ever. That defense was extremely exposed last night and against the Ravens earlier. It's not even the best current defense. It's a top 5 defense currently, but certainly doesn't enter the best ever conversation. All that said, Belicheat may have some shenanigans left in the chamber that he's saving for playoffs.

Sidenote, what is the earliest a team has ever clinched their division? The Saints clinched already, with 4 games to play. That's hilarious.

I remember being at a game in 2002 or 2003 when we clinched the North ridiculously early. Can't remember what week though.

Vikings with some key injuries tonight, wish we played them next week.

That Cook one didn't look great. He's the straw that stirs their drink on offense. Mattison is a fine backup, but they have driven Cook into the ground this year. It was only a matter of time before he got dinged.

I think his shoulder got dislocated after he fumbled

Now if the Broncos weren’t the Broncos, this thing would all be just about wrapped up.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

49ers might really regret not taking that tie a few weeks ago.

I think Brady is waiting for Jim Harbaugh to be fired at U-MICH so he can step in as coach. :)

Here in Viking-land, I'm getting the "Packers might win the division, but the Vikings have better odds to make it farther in the playoffs" mantra again. Tis the season.
