Game 2: Vikings @ Packers - Sunday, Sept 15th Noon CT

homer
What a weird game, 5 points and 4 were on the called back TD and another because Diggs just can't help being a total richard. I almost wish they wouldn't have called the TD back so we could have won by 1 point. Allison had the TD but would have been the goat for the fumble and then not getting another first down. Alexander needs to finish those plays, really Cousins was throwing up prayers and they couldn't tackle Cook, that was their whole offense. I thought we were beat when the Vikes were pounding the run and got inside the 10 late, Cousins is the new Cutler, a loser.

Some good some bad and a couple of that was really stupid moments.

In that situation you MUST kick the field goal..

I'd have kicked the FG, but I have no problem with going for it and if they get it, everyone's talking about how gutsy and aggressive our new coach is compared to McCarthy who would have kicked there.

The only absolute is that you don't run right into Joseph, Stephens and the teeth of that defense with Vitale in the I.

Rumor has it, the Packers thought they had the first down and it was 1st and 10, not 4th and 1. I'd be curious to know if the down marker on the sideline had changed by mistake.

Yeah, I walk it back on the criticism due to that alone. I did not see Rodgers complain to the ref either but I guess he did right away.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I know I was initially confused because the near ref looked like he was spotting it on the yellow line, so I could see some cross up where we thought it was a first and tried to run a play so it couldnt be challenged.

The Bears offense is junk

Hahahaha Bears.

That was suboptimal

Pretty bizarre end to the game, if the Bronco defender doesn't touch him doesn't the game end? The receiver didn't really take a knee and we are talking about a half second, I guess I am not sure about the rule there.

Pretty sure it's the give up rule.

If an offensive player with the ball gives up and takes a knee and they have a timeout they can kill the clock at that time to prevent what you are suggesting.

I knew that they couldn't just not touch him but with the time being so close I thought maybe it expires before the player is declared to have given up, in the end I am sure they were going to put the second back on no matter what though, it was clearly at :01 when he hit the ground.

Vikings put up 7.0 yards per play and allowed 4.9 yards per play, but lost.

There have only been 13 games in the last 10 years in the NFL with the losing team >7 YPP and winning team <5 YPP.

Kirk Cousins has been the losing QB in 3 such games since 2013.

*Stolen from Twitter.

That’s a neat stat. You can always count on the Vikings to make a few big (lucky?) plays. That’s why I half expected them to win today until the very last play.

Absolute gift from the officials. The ball was still in Trubisky's hand when Chubb hit him.

There were a few bad roughing calls in that game.

I just went back and watched it and that actually makes sense. I don't know if that's any better, but I was conflating the sequence where there was a 3rd and short where they lined up with Vitale in the I and pitched it to Jones and got stopped(when he probably gets it if he stretches it out) and the sequence where they went for it with 3 WR'es and a Graham at TE vs Minnesota's base D and Jones got stuffed, the later being the 4th down.

It's a stupid rule put in place to really protect QB's. 2 of 3 years ago they changed the rules so that it no longer matters if the QB(or any player, but it's mainly for the QB) slides feet first or head first, as long as they're "giving themselves up," they cannot be hit and they're down as soon as they touch the ground. So basically, if it happens in the final couple seconds of a game and the team has a timeout, they're going to assume the guy is giving himself up and make sure they give the other team another play.

I didn't see when Trubisky started signalling TO, but in order for the Refs to put a second back on the clock, they basically said that the absolute moment he was down Trubisky got the Refs attention and signaled for a TO.

Robinson made it closer than he should have taking those extra two steps. The most obvious action would be for him to catch the ball and just drop. No need for a knee, just go down and make it clear you're giving yourself up.
