It feels like the Brewers have just given up on trying to get hot and win that Wild Card. Chacin and now Jeffress? You're giving away two of the guys who'd most likely help you if you were trying to get hot.

I'm very surprised that there are still people thinking that the Brewers have a shot yet this year. Very little has gone their way and their big producers haven't been producing consistently. I'm all for being positive, do you honestly believe that this team realistically has it in them?

Yeah, it's not an opinion, it's a fact. They're 4 games out. Last year they went several weeks without losing and had a historic Sept. It wouldn't take nearly that much for them to get in.

That said, I didn't once say I believed they would and I literally stopped reading IGT's because of your posts...you seem to be searching for people who have optimism so you can argue. And I don't even have that, I just started a fact. They have a chance. 4 games in the WC on Sept 1st=chance.

Jeffress and Chacin will be lucky to get major league contracts this winter. They're not all that old but the game has changed and the Brewers weren't interested in bringing either back. I do think they'd like to bring Pomeranz back though if they can agree to terms. They want to see more of Jay Jackson in September. Is he worth a 40 man spot this winter? Is Nelson?

Who's next to go? Gio?

:rolleyes :rolleyes

I'd definitely bet money that multiple teams are interested in both, but especially Jeffress.

He was never as good as his numbers said last year, but he's certainly capable of being a solid reliever and if he can just rest for 6 weeks, then start working on that shoulder, I have zero doubt he'll be a solid pitcher again next year.

Glad he was able to get his baseball career and life back on tracks in Milwaukee.

Sad day, I've always been a big fan. Maybe they'll give him a shot next year on a lower rate, I guess we'll see! This seems like the start of a major overhaul this winter

He helped propel us to the playoffs a season ago and I enjoyed every bit of that but he was a big reason we exited when we did. Wore down so much that he wasn’t even ready to go this season. And when he was, he was never that guy again. It just wasn’t going to be a fit at $4M+ next season.

I am more concerned about the state of the food truck after this move.

Odd double post.

JJ should be considered for a 2020 contract at around $2-3 million. He was dramatically underpaid the last two years. This move was to clear a 40-man spot right now, but it doesn’t mean he won’t be back. In fact, lots of teams should be after him for next year.

Like the moves today but not sure why the 3 dfa’s weren’t done sooner.

by cutting ties after 31 august, the club ensures that claiming or signing teams cannot use the player in the postseason--making them less desirable. makes it easier for stokes, jr. or wilkerson to clear waivers and remain in the organization if for some reason either needs to be added back again.

I somewhat expect him back. He has been real helpful for us over the years and I can’t imagine a team will offer him much on a major league deal, if that. Give him a nice $2mil or so base salary with incentives he will hit if he sticks around all year as a productive arm. I’d rather take a flyer on Jeffress to start off the season than other options...especially ones that can start in the minors.

I’ll agree to giving him a shot next year if he doesn’t sign with another team to end this year. That arm needs rest no matter what his agent tells us.

If Knebel and Wahl come back healthy they are probably in. Black and Faria are out of options so one or both have to be kept or the Brewers lose them. Brewers probably keep at least one other lefty (Pomeranz or Claudio) to go with Hadar. Suter as one long man and Guerra (if re-signed), or Lyles, Anderson, Houser, Nelson, (possible long shots Burnes or Peralta) which ever one doesn't start, as the other long man. Throw in D. Williams (if he can find another pitch) and possibly Albers and that doesn't leave much room for Jeffress.

Wahl is intriguing and all but I would call him more of a long shot than a shoo in for 2020 opening day roster. But a bunch of those listed I’d also I doubt the likelihood they start 2020 in our pen. Plenty of room for JJ if the off-season treats him well and they want him back. I hope it happens.

Hader.

It's spelled H-A-D-E-R.

jeremy jeffress has officially been granted his release. had another team claimed him, they would have been stuck with the club option set by the brewers after the conclusion of this season. now, any club can freely negotiate with jeffress.
