Sept 1 predictions

Doubt anyone will claim Stokes, so likely to be outrighted. Still some potential there, just not enough to warrant carrying him on the 40 for multiple seasons to wait.

Know a lot of people were predicting the Wilkerson move, though I didn't think they'd do it.

Weird that they'd so high on Austin.

I don't think Stokes is a huge loss, but I still expect someone to claim him. If you're a rebuilding team with space on the 40-man roster, why not see if he starts hitting next year? If not, he can be removed from the 40-man once space is needed.

As for Austin it surely mostly due to the lack of RH bats in general. He's also been consistently very good in AAA, and been at least below average (94 wRC+) in the majors so far. Something in his game must make the Brewers think he can translate more of his AAA performance to the majors. Does strike out at a Keon Broxton-esque rate though.

This team can use Burnes Supak T Taylor Nottingham etc., the entire 40 man should be available for EVERY game. Supak can pitch 5-6 innings in a blowout loss to save arms. Taylor can pinch run or defend. Maybe we’ll catch Lightning in a bottle with Burnes? What if there’s a 15+ inning game?

Several reasons.

1) Money. Promoted players have to be paid the prorated MLB minimum. It's not a ridiculously high amount, but it costs 100K or so per player to call him up the entire month.

2) Service time. Especially in the case of young players it's often not in the team's best interest to blow a month of service time on an extremely minimal role.

3) Player development. In the cases of some players, the organization would prefer them doing something else for their own personal development rather than coming up to Milwaukee to do almost nothing for the month. That might be going right home and getting some rest, preparing for fall/winter league play, or another form of training.

4) Clubhouse. Players do complain at times of the extra congestion in September, and a full 40 man clubhouse is probably going to prove to be pretty uncomfortable and pretty unpopular.

Ok, after reading your post, and since Burnes was called up today, I still want Taylor and Nottingham up, and Devin Williams will be up after Biloxi playoffs. Taylor for pinch running and defense, Nottingham in case Freitas PH and out, protection if there’s extra inning game.
