Cory Spangenberg contract selected from AAA, Gamel optioned to AAA, Chacin DFA

Prior to this year, Spangenberg had played 11 innings at shortstop in pro ball (minors and majors combined). Starting shortstop for the Brewers tonight.

 

And 134 innings there in San Antonio this year. It's not like they are counting on him to take them to the playoffs, I think they are basically rewarding him for having a good season in AAA. It's not like taking time from Arcia or Perez is going to hurt the team.

 

This. Who cares. Any option we have at SS is a bad one. It's not like he's going to take playing time from Hiura.

Weird that Gamel, the routine bench player, is going down instead of Grisham, who isn't getting the regular ABs he needs to be getting.

 

Suppose Spangenberg could be an option for the roster next year so there's some time to evaluate him. If he can play a passable SS he makes more sense than Perez.

 

Not weird at all. Gamel gets regular playing time, will be back when rosters expand, won’t burn an option, and gives us infield depth for the next week
