2019-08-23: Diamondbacks (Kelly) at Brewers (Lyles) [Brewers win, 6-1 -- Jordan Lyles holds the Dbacks hitless over 6 innings]

Eye Black

It made no sense. Worst case Lyles strikes out and the top of the order has a chance with the bases loaded. Instead he sends Braun into an almost sure out and then has a near dead duck in Lyles to make out 3...then the line up turns over with empty bases the next inning. That is the likely outcome Sedar had.

That didn’t take a perfect throw either. Anything remotely close and Braun is almost surely out...not a deep throw either.

I know Lyles is coming up, but that's a stupid send by Sedar with 1 out. Not even close. If it's 2 out and Lyles coming up, sure, take a shot. Not 1.

Doubly so since Lyles got a hit...

Still, Crew up 6-0, Lyles with a no-no through five...

If this is the biggest complaint, we are having a good day.

I think it's time for my nightly automate the damn strikes zone rant.

And that's why you never send a runner to a sure out at the plate.

It’d be interesting to know the percentage that the RF makes a perfect throw to home versus Lyles percentage of getting him in from 3rd with 1 out.

Well, it's the percentage of Lyles getting him in with 1 out + Cain getting him in with 2 outs.

And generally I've been a big Sedar supporter in the right situation...i.e. if there were 2 outs when he sent Braun there then whatever...

Craig, your CF just got tossed after getting hosed on strike 3. And you have nothing to say?

Plus, your pitcher is throwing a no-no and your CF is your best defender...'twould be a shame if that comes back to haunt Lyles/CC

What exactly was CC going to do, ask for a review on the ejection?

He was out there jawing with the ump too.

No, he wasn't. He walked out there to escort Cain back to the dugout. He never said a word to the umpire.

They literally just showed the replay on TV, and he was there as soon as Cain got tossed, and was talking to the ump. Just because he doesn't look like Lou Pinella out there doesn't mean he isn't standing up for his players or showing emotion.

But how are we supposed to get a hilarious Jomboy video if he doesn't throw an epic tantrum?

Yeah, I don't know, it's prolly more Cain's fault. I'm only listening.

Pretty selfish of our best defensive OF to get booted in a 6-0 game in which his pitcher is tossing a no-no.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Too bad the pitch count is going to get him.

Yeah, maybe they let him come out for the 7th, but that's it.

At 100+, little chance

And he is pitching well...but not that great. Lots of hanger curves and curves that do nothing ending 10 feet off the plate. He has done his part, but the D Backs are definitely doing their part to have zero hits.

This is quite possibly the first time I've seen a pitcher go six innings and give up no hits, and have this description attached to his outing.

If only Hader was himself we could let him dig in for three with a reasonable chance at the no hitter. Lyles for 150 or turning it over to the current bullpen leaves much worse odds.

Ha, I thought the same and wished we sucked so vintage Hader could pitch.

That’s fine. I have seen dozens of outings way better than this that include hits and even a run or two.

Like I said he is pitching good, but not usually what would deem no-hit status.
