Don't look now but Phil Bickford is knocking on the door of becoming a prospect again. He's 24 and in A+ obviously so he'd need to get moving but his last 25 IP have been ridiculous:

25.1IP 40K 7BB 1.42 ERA

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

The highlight videos I've seen don't have any radar gun readings, but it certainly appears that his once vaunted velocity is back. He's pitching his way toward a promotion in short order, and a likely 40-man spot this offseason. The way he's pitching, his age and the fact that he's being used in relief make him a pretty ideal candidate to be plucked in the Rule 5 Draft if not protected.

I would like to see them promote Bickford to AA for the playoffs and see how he does. Get as much information as possible to make an informed decision on weather he should be protected.

Wonder if he's an AFL candidate?

Anyone know why Freitas hasn't played since Sunday?

No, this is from San Antonio's Tuesday game summary:

Catcher David Freitas was also a last minute scratch from the starting lineup for undisclosed reasons.

The team is on the road so don't expect any updates other than from the Brewers or Missions directly.

Do you mean eligible or likely?

For eligible, yes; as for likely, I'd say that depends on whether the Brewers intend on protecting him. If they do intend on protecting him, then I'd say it's likely. If they don't intend on protecting him, then I'd say it's unlikely that they want to give other teams a look at him.
