Box: DSL Phillies "White" Squad 6, DSL Brewers 4

Third baseman Jesus Parra (have we mentioned he's still 16 years old?) tripled and doubled in his 2-for-4 day. 23 of Parra's 56 hits have gone for extra bases. The Venezuelan native and right-handed bat was listed in the pre-season at 6'2", 184. Likely "grew" over the summer. It'd be sweet if he can stay at the hot corner throughout his Brewer journey.

Six of the seven Cervecerito hits were for extra-bases. 19-year-old RF Alejandro Marte doubled twice and added a sacrifice fly. (it's theme week in the DSL if you've followed along, you'd correctly guess Marte was assigned the DH spot today.)

Welcome and an eventful one-inning pro debut for 17-year-old RHP Stanley Encarnacion, signed on August 12th.

DSL Phillies White Bottom of the 5th

Pitching Change: Stanley Encarnacion replaces Fray Morelo.

Raulyn Blanc walks.

Raulyn Blanc caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Jhonnys Cabrera to second baseman Sebastian Burciaga.

Carlos Rondon singles on a ground ball to left fielder Randy Rodriguez.

With Leandro Pineda batting, Carlos Rondon advances to 2nd on a balk.

Leandro Pineda grounds out, second baseman Sebastian Burciaga to first baseman Farlyn Manon. Carlos Rondon to 3rd.

Giuseppe Peguero singles on a ground ball to center fielder Eduarqui Fernandez. Carlos Rondon scores.

Erick Brito called out on strikes.

Five Run Ninth Lifts Mudcats to Thrilling 8-7 Victory

Carolina scored five straight two-out runs in the ninth in Lynchburg while snapping a six-game losing streak

Given the Brewers' big-league pitching need for Sunday, I threw this out on Twitter regarding Phil Bickford, especially since they'll need to consider adding Bickford to the 40-man this offseason.

As Greg also noted, first professional career game in the outfield for Devin Hairston after 248 games on the dirt.

San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes

Box: San Antonio 5, New Orleans 4, 13 innings

Missions Snap Skid With 13-Inning Walk-Off Victory

Tyler Austin Tallies Three Hits in First Start With San Antonio

Never mind the logistics of getting pitchers to Washington, D.C., from San Antonio in time for a matinee, of course the Missions go 13 innings. Taylor Williams pitched two scoreless, Jay Jackson one. Aaron Wilkerson has not pitched in five days.

***

So given the minor-league extra-inning ghost runner rule, how did this get to 13 innings? Here's the game log, read about some pretty amazing pitching and lack of clutchness from both teams.

Box: AZL Brewers Blue 8, AZL Rangers 5

Three-run 8th snapped a 5-5 tie. Short of an inside-the-park grand slam, this, my friends, is the most exciting play in baseball, especially given the circumstances here:

AZL Brewers Blue Top of the 8th

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Victor Vargas replaces Jackie Urbaez.

Victor Vargas hit by pitch.

Alex Hall called out on strikes.

Andre Nnebe strikes out swinging.

Danny Casals singles on a line drive to right fielder Rafy Barete. Victor Vargas to 2nd.

Anderson Melendez walks. Victor Vargas to 3rd. Danny Casals to 2nd.

Luis Silva triples (1) on a ground ball to right fielder Rafy Barete. Victor Vargas scores. Danny Casals scores. Anderson Melendez scores.

Pitching Change: Leon Hunter replaces Destin Dotson.

Orveo Saint grounds out, shortstop Cody Freeman to first baseman Yaniery Guzman.

The Blue Brigade reached base on eight hits (three of them for extra bases, one walk, and three HBP's), while also racking up 17 strikeouts. Five Ranger errors helped their cause.

***

We have a Chris Dula sighting. The 27-year-old fireballer (rehabbing from the Mudcats) had not pitched since May 29th.

***

But the story overshadowing even the big triple is the continued dominance of 19-year-old 2nd round LHP Antoine Kelly. My goodness, five shutout innings, 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K's. A 0.88 WHIP in his first 26 pro innings.

Box: AZL Dodgers "Mota" Squad 12, AZL Brewers Gold 9

The Golden Boys scored seven in the bottom of the 9th to make the final score presentable.

Mexico native RHP Mario Perez is 17 years old (a young 17 at that, as his linked picture confirms), is listed at 5'11", 148, and just the fact he's on a pro mound in Maryvale is something in and of itself. Yes, the WHIP of 2.18 is a bit predictable, but give this one time.

19-year-old 17th round LHP Kelvin Bender was much better his last time out than he showed here.

On the flip side, recent non-drafted college signing RHP Seth Beard is 23 and performed well in the later innings.

The Brewers continue to give a try in the leadoff spot to struggling youngsters, this time it was 19-year-old 35th round middle infielder (second base here) Odrick Pitre. Pitre singled in the 1st to snap an 0-for-21 stretch.

LF Francis Florentino reached base four times, Ashton McGee (DH'ing) and 1B Jesus Chirinos three times apiece.
