2019-08-13: Twins (Pérez) at Brewers (Anderson) [Brewers lose, 7-5 -- Grandal hits go ahead 3-run HR in 7th; Hader serves up first pitch 3-run HR in 8th]

Do we want the Cubs of Phillies to win today.

:ohwell

I think at this point I’m more worried about our play. Twins, nationals, cardinals, diamondbacks, cardinals, cubs all in a row

We are going to have to prove we can win those series. I’m very skeptical of that. Especially the road series. I think we would do well to be over .500 in those games. Would that be enough to make a move in the playoff race. I don’t know

We never ever ever ever ever want the Cubs to win. The only way I would want that, is game 162 and we need them to beat the Cardinals for the Brewers to win the division. And even then, I couldn't even actively root for them...just silently hope.

We get it, you hate Stearns, and know way more than him about baseball. Could you let it a rest now and then?

Click on the name.

Click add foe.

Just assume any posts are exactly the same and ignore them. Makes life much more pleasant around here.

Thanks!

In regards to tomorrow's game. I assume this means it won't be available on foxsportsgo, mlbtv, etc. I would be more annoyed if I wasn't going to be at the game already, but regardless this is really stupid.

I hate these games. I like to use the DVR at times so I can watch the game when I want but pause it and come back later so I can do other things instead of parking in front of the TV for 3 1/2 hours. Judicious use of fast forward can really make the games go faster. For You Tube I’ll have to watch on my iPad or computer.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Not sure where to find it, but how many times have the Brewers faced a lefty this season? If it’s something like 80/40, with the majority being right handed, it wouldn’t really appear to be everybody throwing “any” lefty against us if 2/3 of the staters we face are righties. I think that would be about an expected amount if it’s anything similar to that.

This will be the Brewers 39th game of 120 against LH starters, 32.5% of our games.

Per BRef's league splits page, 1006 of 3560 games have bern started by LHP, 28.3% of all games.

Which means to this point we've seen about 5 more LH starters than an average MLB team.

Phillies. Still have to have the goal of the division in mind. You're only a couple out and play the Cubs 7 more times. The WC play in game is such a crap shoot in itself, plus if you win you play LAD. Get the division and you avoid all that.

Agree. Brewers need to win division as they don't set up well for 1 game scenario. Try to defend your crown.

I’m really looking at the next 23 games, a stretch that ends on September 8. They’re all against teams with winning records and includes the 6 series you listed plus two games against the Astros and 4 more with the Cubs. I really think that only .500 in those games would leave the Brewers in a tough spot with just three weeks left in the season (unless they win a lot against the Cards and Cubs). I expect one or two of the teams in the playoff jumble are going to make a move soon and treading water as the Brewers have been doing isn’t going to be good enough. Something like 14-9 would be great.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Wow, kinda ridiculous people trying to defend this roster vs LHP. Grandal since first week of June hitting below .200 with zero homers. But let’s continue to trot him out there at 1B BECAUSE WE HAVE NO BETTER OPTIONS. The guys wore out, if he’s not catching, he’s at first, tired = slow bat = 6 week slump.

Just replacing a tired slumping bat at first base with a bat that all year is hitting LHP at a .525 clip would help not just vs the lefty’s but also allow Grandal to finally get the rest he needs to be able to produce again.

Now go ahead and refute just this one example of bad roster management.

Impossible to refute, you clearly know when a player is tired. The coaching and training staff does not. Oh, and don't forget Stearns- he's a real dummy too.

I think for sanity I literally just have to forget what I just said and just to get excited game by game. Because when you look at it the way above they almost have no chance of being in the playoffs

Since June 8 (first week of June) Grandal is at...

215/366/390 with six home runs.

Now if you meant first week of July he is at...

233/367/311 with zero home runs. So above .200 & still with a good OBP.

On the season Grandal has a 123 wRC+ vs lefties.

Playoff odds currently at...

538: 34%

BPro: 31.8%

FanGraphs: 29.4%

BRef: 28.1%

Flip a coin twice, if you call it correctly both times you just did something with a 25% probability.

If you call it wrong one of the two times we are definitely missing the postseason.

For the record I actually just did this after reading this. I called tails twice and it was tails both times.

So you are all welcome if the Brewers make the playoffs.

Yes, July, thanks for the correct stats. Can you get his wRC+ the last 6 weeks or so vs lefties?

The only problem with sports is that there are differing abilities of the opponents than just chance. I would feel a lot better if we played the pirates 9 games compared to the cardinals. That’s a tough stretch we have that we aren’t really equipped for

I think I’d take my chance with two flips of a coin than to actually play those 23 games if they asked me

Adam took care of it for me

And this isn’t against you sveum. Just a general statement. I’ve learned over the years that those in season playoff percentages are utterly meaningless

I’ve learned over the years that those in season playoff percentages are utterly meaningless

The only absolute knowledge attainable by man is that life is meaningless.

That is true

The problem with fan graphs and Leo Tolstoy is they don’t factor in a Freitas which in turn makes the playoffs virtually assured and gives mankind total understanding of why we are here in the first place

So it looks like we will have to wait until September callups to have all of the human race’s oldest questions answered

As much as this season has been agonizing for us Brewers fans...I try to put in perspective by asking myself how Red Sox fans must feel this year. Then again, they also won a World series last year, so I think for me, that might MIGHT temper my disappointment just a little.

One thing that is interesting about the NL Central is outside of the Cubs none of the other three opponents have had many starts from left-handed pitchers with the exception of 11 starts from Steven Brault (Pirates) and 3 starts from the previously injured Alex Wood (Reds).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Boston professional sport fans have celebrated 11 championships with their teams just since 2002. Without even counting the numerous conference and division championships. They can get right out of here with their disappointment.
