Wildcard game

Bulldogboy

I think Flaherty would be the Cards' first choice.

Also with the Nats/Mets, if you face them, you could get deGrom for 5 and Thor for 3 or Scherzer for 5 and Stras for 3 if those teams are willing to pull out the stops. Or if it's against the Brewers, maybe Corbin would come in in the middle of the game to mow down Grandal/Yelich/Mous/Thames in some order.

if the club is able to stretch him out, i'm leaning towards brent suter. i absolutely love how he keeps hitters off-balance by working so fast. i think it would put undue pressure on the hitters and make them press more.

and he's the guy i want fielding the ball on an infield dribbler.

If we make the WC game we are going to be throwing so much crap at the wall the starter will hardly be meaningful. That’s just how this team is built. 2-3 innings max if we are trying to win a 1 game playoff. Lyles/Suter/Pom/Hader/Gio/etc.

Whoever didn’t pitch 3+ the day before better be ready. No need for Suter to be stretched out. He ain’t pitching 4+ innings anyway.

Exactly. CC will use every pitcher he has. They are all "out-getters" and he'll go to individual match-ups. Where it gets tricky is if the game would go extra innings. He'd likely keep a "starter" in reserve just in case.

Don’t forget Woody. They can have scherzer or Strasburg or Corbin. I’ll take Woody for 3 or 4, then our pen over there’s.

Bumping this old topic...

It's looking like the Brewers will end up in the WC game. Question might be whether it's more important for them to have it at home or if it's more important to line up the pitching (hopefully they can do both)

If they played it absolutely straight Lyles would be on turn with an extra day of rest due to an off day on 9/30. Honestly, he might be who you want getting the ball anyway. He did have his worst start as a brewer against the Nats on 8/17. I still think I would feel good about him going 1x through the order vs the Nats to start the game.

Woodruff said today that he was feeling fatigued during his start. would it be the worst thing in the world to just rest him the rest of the way hoping to get 2 or 3 IP out of him in the WC game? Gio is already on turn with Woodruff so they wouldn't need to find a starter for that regular season game anyway.

Houser is probably another guy you would want available out of the pen for that WC game. If game 162 isn't a must win for a playoff spot maybe they hold him back to be available for the WC game as well.

It will be interesting to see how the Brewers play this out. I think if they win 2/3 against the Reds that will give them a little more freedom to play with the pitching staff to get that ideal group of out getters.

I think I would prefer something along the lines of 1-4 Lyles and woodruff, 2 IP Suter, 1 Pomeranz, 2 Hader

Jonathon Taylor had cramps in Madison yesterday and it looked like Gary had them today in the Packer game. It has been brutally muggy in Wisconsin the last couple of weeks, I have to imagine it wasn't too comfortable inside Miller Park. It's possible it was more about that than Woody struggling coming off the injury.

He didn't specifically attribute it to the playing conditions in the short clip Rosiak posted on twitter, but i suppose that could have been part of it.

Given the 2 clinches last year was away from Miller Park, and the assumed clinching this year will be away as well, I am not afraid if we have to play in Washington. As a fan and looking at our home/away splits, I'd rather play home, but I won't fret if we don't.
