First Two Packers Games... Would You Take 1-1?

Play them out? I’m confused at the right question being asked in general here. If we win the first game, we should probably try to win the second.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I believe he's posing a hypothetical: if someone right now offered a gaurantee of going 1-1 or you could take your chances on 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2 which would you do?

You would obviously take your chances because chances are you're still going to end up at least 1-1.

I think I'd take the 1-1 if given the option. I don't feel that the Packers are going anywhere this year with a new coach, 2nd Year defensive coach, and many new players on defense especially. The Vikings and Bears are supposed to be fairly ok this year, and it would be tough digging out of an 0-2 start, especially in division. No one can reasonably expect 2-0, as well. An early win could go a long way, and a bad losing streak could further the crack between Coach and mvp.

@Chicago-Packers will likely be 4-5 point underdogs in this one.

Vs Minnesota, I'd guess we're probably 2 point favorites.

That'd be a tough call, but I'd rather play them out. I know the offense will struggle early on and we're playing two loaded and really deep defenses, but I think our defense is going to come out with it's hair on fire playing aggressive and really well also.

Minnesota with their roster should be probably among the 3-4 favorites in the NFC, but it's just tough to trust them. But they have everything you could need except for that OL and they've improved that quite a bit. All-Pro caliber players at every level of the D, arguably the best WR'er duo in the NFL, a dynamic back in Cook that's healthy. But Cousins has played well without great talent and he played decent with it last year. I just don't trust him. Cousin just feels like a 9-7 type QB, even with this roster.

I demand the option to go 0-0-2!

IMO, this is one of those sports-talk radio arguments, as there's no real answer. Teams don't get the option to chop their games (even ties are played into OT); the team's record is based on the games played, rather than some hypothetical.

Would I be happy with 1-1 following 2 games within the division? Probably yes, but how the team loses the one game matters more than how they managed to win the other game (e.g., injury / choke job vs. fluke).

Bet the Bears suck. No actual analysis for that statement, just the random type of thing they seem to do after a good season. I'd take the Packers to win both of those games but fart some other time and finish 9-7.

Yup, I'd have my guess on a step back from the Bears. I'm not a huge NFL guy so can't speak too much. But it seems all the moves made on D made sense for once, if the D becomes good and Rodgers is healthy they should be fine and win the division. Regardless, it's not going to be easy as you have to respect Bears and Vikes quite a bit.

The Vikings are only treading water. They should've been much better last year (based on talent), but weren't. I think the coaching staff stalled like many defensive focused staffs that can't seem to find any traction offensively. They lost a couple of good players without much to replace them. I'm guessing Zimmer is fired after this year after they go 7-9. Cousin's is booed out of town despite throwing for 4000+ yards.

The Bears were built on defense last year. Now Vic left town as did a couple of FAs; again without much to replace them. I'm not a believer in their QB; he runs but has suspect accuracy. I think they step back while playing a 1st place schedule this year. Maybe 9-7.

I'd play the games. There is probably only a 10% chance of losing both. At least a 25% chance you win both.

There's pretty good reason to think they're a sub .500 team. You should a regression to the norm with regard to the turnovers and they have a QB who can't throw the ball that well.

They over-performed last year.

Of course that Defense does have a lot of talent on it..particularly up front with Hicks, Goldman...you gotta think they get something out of Floyd with Mack playing on the other side. And then Roquan Smith should become an elite MLB'er in short order. But they took a hit in the secondary and I think they were overrated last year. Fuller is a really nice player, but he's not an elite lock down corner.

If the Packers "fart" some games away, it'll be some ugly 20-17 games where the offense is real bad early in the season while the D is keeping them in games and the offense can't get anything going. I'm hoping that between Aaron Jones and Rodgers, he can will the offense along until they start to gel, but I could easily see the blowing games early.

I have zero clue what Minnesota's going to do this year. Zimmer's definitely trending in the same direction of some really good defensive coaches who can't manage to get their offense to perform despite an abundance of talent(two legit #1 WR'ers in Thielen and Diggs, Cook, Rudolph, good backup RB's, a good QB).

He kinda reminds me of Lovie Smith or Jeff Fischer. At least Rivera in Carolina signed a great offensive coordinator in Norv Turner.

I think the Lions will be improved and they might be able to steal one from us, but I still think we end up 4-2 in the division and we could really be hitting our stride later in the year. Still not feeling great about the offense right out of the gate though.
