2019 Green Bay Packers Season Thread

homer

At a bare minimum, I'd think this development might cause Tom Brady to rescind his offer for brown to stay at his house...plus I'm sure roger Goodell just loves the thought of dealing with this situation from a league discipline perspective...

I'd be surprised if brown plays a down for the Patriots if these allegations prove to have any shred of truth

The timing is way too convenient...I would like to see the texts where he bragged about it. Pretty lofty accusations.

Texts (emails?) are out there on the interwebs now.

Not sure what to make of them. Brown seems pretty confident that she's just trying to use him to make money. He also seems like he paid too much for a Central Michigan Education.

It's being investigated now and I'll withhold any opinions on the matter, but if you were ever going to accuse someone, take him to civil court....right now would be the perfect time for someone to do that with Brown. He's about as despised as any current NFL player is, even when you consider Tyreke Hill.

I'd like to start taking numbers on Brown playing for the Pats this year. Still think the chances are strong, but they've taken a hit.

Uh, Antonio Brown...

The response form his lawyer reads all kinds of shady.

Seems real shady. I’ve never been sexually assaulted but unless she formed Stockholm Syndrome.... I don’t think driving state lines to come visit, asking for tickets from, and posting pictures with the one who had violated you all after the fact. Lawyers can make things seem false for sure and I haven’t read her side but as shady sounding as some Madison girls as of right now.

mod edit

You've really not been paying attention for the last couple years, have you? If you don't believe it or you find it suspicious, fine, but have you heard of this guy...big in the Film industry...Harvy Weinstein..the guy who came out and actually admitted to many of the things he was accused, and yet he had several of had academy award winning/high profile actresses at the height of their fame whom he'd sexually assaulted still taking pictures with him, still doing media with him, still showing up to parties at his place/with him.

In fact this was the exact same tactic used by Roger Ailes as well. He'd show pictures of O'Reily or himself taking a picture with one of the many women assaulted or harassed there-AFTER the actual incidents took place in order to try to make the argument that you're making. Why on Earth would you pose in a picture with the person responsible(or at least partially responsible) for how you make a living after they've treated you badly. Yet all these "shady" people with "Stockholm syndrome," have done it time after time.

And if you know enough about what Stockholm Syndrome is, you obviously know that's not even remotely applicable here, so it's more of a snide way of making a joke or being sarcastic and attacking her for continuing to work for the millionaire after the incident. But was there ever any hint that she held for extended periods against her will? No? Then no need to bring up Stockholm Syndrome. I'm going to make an assumption here, but if you know what Stockholm is, then you understand it has to do with kidnapping, so you mentioning it just comes off as really kinda obtuse In fact almost all of this reads like you hit your head about 6 years ago and you've missed everything that's happened since. There are literally hastags about victims. #whyIdidn'treport. Used to try and explain the very attacks you're using right now in a not so subtle way, dozens of stories about why women didn't come forward. Is Bill Cosby innocent because he takes a picture with one of his rape victims?

I get people being suspicious. People should be suspicious of serious accusations. I'd also ask what this young women has to do with the young "Madison girls" but I already know it has nothing to do with them. They're women who've likely never met each other.

Nothing I've read about her seems "shady" yet. She seemed like an elite athlete who now runs a gym training young Gymnasts. Everything I've read and seen about Antonio Brown as of late seems shady. Though that obviously doesn't mean he's guilty of sexual assault.

One thing that "worries" me about the defense is that most of Pettine's scheme is based on confusing the opposing QB. You line up one way and he thinks you're doing something but you do something else. This works great on young QBs like Trubisky but will it work against wily veterans? Hopefully the personnel has improved to the point where the confusion is just one part of it and even if the QB isn't confused you have talent to defend.

Uhh, aside from the most important aspect being talent, scheming is entirely based on trying to disguise what you're intending to do. Nobody is telling 11 guys to go out there and wing it. Scheme can help cover up for talent deficiencies but it works even better when there are good players executing it.

Not always. Seattle has a pretty basic defense. They just cover well and rush the QB. There's not a ton of deception. And some teams disguise much better than others.

But a big part of the deception is who is rushing and who isn't, right? So the pressure is more on the OL (with some QB audibles) to cover the pass rush. For the Viking OL, that could be interesting. Don't give Cousins time in the pocket and he is a bad QB (as are all QBs).

Can't argue with this. Seattle pretty much just lines up and plays. It's helped that they've had a HOF'er at Safety and MLB'er(and probably at CB) for long stretches. But yeah, they're just sitting there in a cover 2 and trying to fly to the ball and bring in fresh pass rushers.

Well, two things. First, Minkah Fitzpatrick has gotten permission to ask for a trade. Now the Dolphins want a 1st(11th pick last year, he's like a Woodson type player that they're playing as an in the box type safety and he doesn't like how he's being used).

He's a elite talent. I'd LOVE to see the Packers go after him. Just slot him into...well..the slot for the next 4 years and you've got an elite playmaker who can bring it off the edge, quick enough to cover the slot WR'er, good vs the run...though not nickel LB'er good as he's being used now.

That's another blue-chip talent. But not for a 1st. I'd really do this for a 2nd and a future 4th? I wouldn't love it, but I think he can be a star and a ball hawk.

So that could address your concerns about Pettine going up against more experienced QB's.

That said, Rodgers has struggled against Cover 2 43 teams for years. From the Zimmer D's in Minny/Cincy, the Bills, the Lions. Those are basic looks and not all of those teams have had great talent(save maybe that one Buffalo team and the Vikes as of late).

I think the key is just disguising the coverage long enough that you can get home before he realizes that they're...doing whatever. Bringing a corner from one side and rotating Savage over to help on that very side. Whatever it is. It's not just the DC, it's how long you disguise it. Rodgers, Brady, Brees(more than the 1st two IMO) have been stymied a bit in recent years by complex defenses. If our players don't give it away too early pre-snap, we should be ok.

And if we can add another versatile, bigger, more athletic Tyrone Matthieu type player we'd had for nearly 4 full years and who I have zero doubt we'd have taken with our 1st last year had he fell, all the better.

Of course, the Dolphins think they can get a kings ransom for him because they did for Tunsil and I'm sure some team thinks highly enough of him to give up a 1st.

Two more things.

1st-Anyone notice that on that TD pass to Jimmy Graham the Bears had a 12 man on the field penalty. So that was a free play. Kinda looked like he threw it up but did not see the call on the TV broadcast.

2nd-Just a write up on the perfect destinations for Fitzpatrick.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay might seem like an odd candidate considering they're less than a year removed from trading their own young safety, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and are fresh off a promising performance from their young defense -- with up-and-comer Jaire Alexander headlining the CB room. But Mike Pettine is about the best coordinator you could find for Fitzpatrick, specializing in nickel and dime packages that could position the Dolphins standout as either a slot CB or third safety, the same kind of roles he'd find somewhere like Philly. Couple that with the fact the Packers may very well have drafted Fitzpatrick if not for Miami swiping him in 2018, and this is another example of a feasible match between a rising star and a team with big eyes for a playoff run.

Getting Fitzpatrick would be fun! More depth, talented player, and would fit what they’re trying to do.

Yeah, I just made a post about it on another thread. I know people want to throw around 1st rounders every year, but in this case, I'd definitely give up a 1st. He played a couple of games last year when Xavier Howard went down with an injury on the outside. One of the games was vs Green Bay. He was targeted 3 times, 1 completion and 0 yards I believe and his grades in the games he played outside were outstanding.

His PFF grades as a whole were outstanding, but that he's capable of playing outside just makes him that much more valuable. I've suggested a 1st+Josh Jackson or maybe a 1st and a conditional pick, or a 1st and a 4th in 2021?

That's a ton to give up..and as I said in the other thread, that may not even get it done since the Dolphins got 2 firsts for Tunsil. Plus because Fitzpatrick was picked JUST outside of the top 10, his 5th-year option is significantly cheaper than if he'd have been just one spot higher. I think top 10 picks 5th-year option is the average of the top 5 salaries, the 11-32 picks are an average of the 3-25th overall salaries.

The only really pressing needs we know of right now is tackle...replace Bulaga, ideally next year so we aren't forced to pay an older Bulaga 13 million next year. MLB'er is also a priority as I don't think we sign someone Martinez for the type of deal he's going to want. At most he should get a contract similar to what AJ Hawk got back in 2008 or whenever it was that he signed that deal for ~5/35. Maybe 5/40, but I think he'll want and get more money than that because tackles is such an overrated stat and teams will pay him as an elite backer.

But whatever, all of this is beside the point. If you can pick up a young, impact talent, do it and figure out the rest later.

I was holding out hope that Fitzpatrick would fall last year, so I would whole-heartedly support a move for him. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I wasn't a huge fan of him last year because there was so many varying opinions on his position. But after a year in the league, he's answered any questions I have. I'd guess he ends up in Philly if he is actually traded personally, but Gute's been aggressive, so could be wrong. There's also the fact that he'd be incredibly cheap for the Packers financially. He'd cost less than 6 million over the next 4 years. I just don't understand why the Dolphins would consider trading him, but I also don't get using him as a Nickel LB'er.

Anyone ever done standing room only tickets at Lambeau? If so, did you have a good view of the game?

I have not. I know on our level you can stand in a few places and see everything just fine. We are in the south end zone. But I don't know if there are SRO specific tix there.

I read people saying a 1st is too much, though I'd imagine it to be more like a 1st and maybe a 5th to out-compete other teams like the Chiefs. And I think it'd be a good addition considering King's injury history and the Packers using nickle and dime a lot. Sure we have more needs on offense, but who says an offense and defense has to be balanced? What looked to be a good defense at least from one week of play would be downright scary with another quality CB on the field.

There's just so many reasons why a team should be willing to pay quite a bit for him. The fact that he's so damn cheap...about 10 million out of the 16 million he signed for was a signing bonus, so he only costs 6 million. There's the fact that he can move outside and play corner on an island even though that's not his strength.

He's a game changing type of talent. Looking at this team I'd be planning on using my 1st and a lot of draft capital on offense. A tackle is a big priority, a slot receiver. But sometimes players come available at a time when they just shouldn't like Mack did. He's obviously nowhere near that level of impact player, but you rarely see the 11th overall pick traded a year later after a really strong rookie year.

Like I said, if the Dolphins really want draft picks, I'd give up this years 1st, next years 3rd and a Josh Jackson for Fitzpatrick and Jerome Baker. You get your stud and you get a really athletic, talented young MLB'er.

I wouldn't bet that until it came down to 7 in a best case. I generally don't bet Packers because I'm a fan, but Denver's D is pretty good and I'm still looking at sometime around the Chargers game for my target for the Packers offense to really gel.
