The DSL Brewers/Indians co-op game, scheduled for the Dodgers' complex in the northern part of the island, was rained out Saturday.

No make-up date announced, although the clubs do play again.

The DSL seasons end on August 24th.

Zack Brown-he of 5 scoreless starting appearances last year- is currently shutting out the Fresno Grizzlies through 5 innings, his first start this year without giving up a run. Hopefully this starts a nice run for Zack.

Outduelling him is Logan Ondrusek....the 34 year old with an 8.81 ERA in AAA this year.

Ray Black with an impressive debut. Given the Brewers bullpen turmoil, I would think it isn't long before he's in Milwaukee's pen.

Luke Barker continues his impressive season. From the little I've seen of him, I believe he is not a fireballer but has a plus to plus-plus changeup, kind of a poor man's Trevor Hoffman. Correct me if I'm wrong (and please post a scouting report). Would like to see the Brewers give him a look in September, but Devin Williams might very well be the priority for that roster spot though.

September can't come soon enough for the Brewers bullpen. You might see all of the 40-man pitchers up - Black, Faria, Jackson, Supak, Burnes, Williams/Barker. They'll need to bullpen the 5th starters spot.

Five-run rally to take the lead, no line drives, lots of seeing-eye ground balls, apparently:

Catcher Jhonnys Cabrera (.384 OBP) and third baseman Branlyn Jaraba each reached three times; LF Juan Frias (.394 OBP) and SS Alberis Ferrer each singled twice.

Lightly-used 17-year-old rookie catcher Henry Leon, DH'ing here, was pinch-ran for after an HBP in the 8th.

You'll see not spectacular, but OK, mound work in the box, including five solid innings from All-Star representative 18-year-old Panamanian rookie RHP Rafael Garcia.

Box: AZL Padres #1 Squad 3, AZL Brewers Blue 2

Weather: 108 degrees, Overcast.

At least it was overcast. 108, barely fans in the stands, and the team is 13-25. Glorious thing, this introduction to pro ball.

For the first time, 2nd round LHP Antoine Kelly allowed more than one run (two) in an outing. He can thank fellow southpaw Pablo Garabitos for stranding two of his baserunners. No fears, as Kelly walked none in his 2.2 innings and now sports a 21-to-2 K-to-BB in 17 frames. Garabitos has been very good in his 12 relief stints.

RHP Harold Chirino missed all of 2018, and that's one of the rare instances the Brewers simply list "injured" in their media guide, no details. Five of the six outs he recorded here came via strikeout.

29th round SS Jackie Urbaez drove in both runs as we was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.

The Padres' kids didn't earn the eventual winning run --

AZL Padres 1 Top of the 7th

Pitching Change: Eddy Tavarez replaces Harold Chirino.

Yerry Landinez called out on strikes.

Chandler Seagle walks.

Wild pitch by pitcher Eddy Tavarez. Chandler Seagle to 2nd.

Luis Paez singles on a ground ball to shortstop Jackie Urbaez. Chandler Seagle to 3rd. Chandler Seagle advances to 3rd, on a fielding error by first baseman Kevin Hardin.

Wild pitch by pitcher Eddy Tavarez. Chandler Seagle scores. Luis Paez to 2nd.

Payton Smith walks.

CJ Abrams grounds into a double play, second baseman Orveo Saint to shortstop Jackie Urbaez to first baseman Kevin Hardin. Payton Smith out at 2nd. CJ Abrams out at 1st.

Box: AZL Padres #2 Squad 6, AZL Brewers Gold 2

Just changed a bit below.

Weather: Weather: 111 degrees, Partly Cloudy.

At least it was partly cloudy. 111, barely fans in the stands, and the team is 9-29. Glorious thing, this introduction to pro ball.

Starter 23-year-old LHP Ian Exposito recorded ten of his 11 outs via strikeout, wow. But eight runners reached base against him, and four runs (three earned) were on his ledger. Two of those runs came in after Exposito's exit, as 19-year-old RHP Santiago Elizondo did not strand the inherited baserunners.

Three bright spots:

19-year-old Pablo Abreu, still on rehab from the Timber Rattlers, on base thrice including a double. He was the DH again here.

18-year-old 2B Felix Valerio (Keon Broxton trade, Mets), two hits, including a double of his own.

18-year-old catcher Andres Melendez also had two base hits. But he has thrown out only 8-of-32 baserunners this year (25%) after throwing out 38% (23-of-61) in the same league last year.

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "In Saturday's postgame podcast, Chris Mehring and Kyle Lobner go through the loss to the Chiefs, take a moment to point out the performances by Wilfred Salaman, Kekai Rios, and Brent Diaz, and talk about another amazing win for the San Antonio Missions at Triple-A. Matt Erickson and Salaman are also going to stop by with some comments from the Clubhouse."

(We'll get to that San Antonio win in just a bit...)

Chris and Kyle also discuss the injury status of third baseman Connor McVey (13:15 minute mark), full details pending.

Staying on the winning track

Missions prevail, 3-2 in 12 innings, for their 70th victory

By Jerry Briggs / San Antonio Missions

Once again, so much squeezed into one notes column, including:

Rick Sweet said Brewers officials are discussing the next move for pitcher Jimmy Nelson. He said he thinks Nelson will pitch another game in relief for the Missions but is awaiting a final decision. Nelson on Friday night enjoyed the most effective outing in his second rehab assignment in Triple-A this season. Hitting 96 mph on the radar gun, he pitched one inning, retired three straight and struck out the side.

Corbin Burnes will be used as an opener on Monday for about three innings.

It's not a full transition back to starting (yet), folks.

Be sure to read the full article.

As far as the Missions' current roster goes, even if you don't count Tyler Saladino, Taylor Williams and Jay Jackson as activated yet following their optional assignments, I get 26 active players here. When these three do get activated, obviously more changes are a'coming.

Not Drew Rasmussen's night.

Information we have indicates that soon-to-be 26-year-old RHP Johan Belisario technically is not eligible for minor league free agency after this season despite a lengthy pro career. Perhaps he agreed to a two-year deal when he was signed as free agent in March. That would have been very astute of the Brewers.

More goodness from LHP Clayton Andrews.

Walters is a late add --

All-Star Status: Recently named all-star Karsen Lindell made a start Friday afternoon in the first game of the doubleheader and was brilliant. Lindell worked five innings of scoreless baseball, allowing four hits, and no walks with six strikeouts. Lindell along with Micah Bello and Nash Walters will be heading out to Boise, Idaho for the All-Star Game on August 6.

Barker throws a fastball/split/curve, as mentioned in the article. I believe I've seen him throw a slider/cutter as well. Fastball is generally in the low 90's with his FB, though I haven't seen him pitch much this year.
