Eulogy for 2019

Jopal78

Imo, losing Woodruff was the final nail in this season's coffin. We already had issues with starting pitching, and needed to add one TOR type arm at the deadline to have a decent 1-2 punch. Losing Woodruff meant we now needed at least 2 TOR type arms, and that was never going to happen.

When he went down, our season went with him.

Yup, this is a pretty negative take, but I think it is healthier to admit that we are toast than to carry on this psychological charade that we might just be able to get back in it.

Not going to happen folks.

lol @ myself.

Has this team met exceptions?

If one's expectations were based on preseason projections, they have played within that range to this point...

BPro: 88 wins

Vegas: 86.5 wins

538: 86 wins

ZIPS: 85 wins

Current Pace: 84 wins

OOTP: 83 wins

Expecting 90+ wins & an easy cruise to the postseason was always an unlikely outcome in an increasingly competitive NL.

I expected a back & forth dog fight for the NL Central title/possible Wild Card that would need 162 games (or maybe even more, again) to settle & that is exactly what we've gotten.

With their 89th win today, the Brewers have officially exceeded all of these preseason projections (with 3 games left to go).

I want it noted that my only post in this thread was how dumb it was. It got deleted and I got a timeout. Was 100% worth it.

You can post your opinion about something and not be a Cubs fan about it.

You can also post and make sense. Keep up the good fight!

He's saying you can make a point and not be a jerk.

I want to make it clear, I have no truck with this argument here.

I just want to, in the general sense, applaud the usage of the colloquialism "cubs fan." I really hope it gains traction. Next time somebody cuts you off, drives through a puddle and splashes you while you're walking, takes the last cold beer, or what have you... Skip the profanity. Tell them what a cubs fan they are.

haha, and use 'Cards fan' for anything pretentious, snobby, or 'acting better than'.

In spite of it being used on me, I got a good chuckle out of it. Putting in the memory bank for future use.

If Braun is out due to the calf. Fire this bad boy up again because this season is toast.

Didn't we just go like 13-2 without Christian Yelich?

He’s not Braun.

Not having both of them is obviously worse than not having just Yelich. You can't ignore the big hits that Braun has had since Yelich went out. Two grand slam HRs and a couple other HRs come right to mind. I could make a pretty persuasive argument that for big games, including playoff games, Braun is the Brewers second most important hitter. It's not that the Brewers can't win with Yelich and Braun both out, but against playoff caliber teams with much better hitters and starting pitchers, a difficult task becomes much more difficult.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
