Scooter Gennett to the Giants

Recommended Posts

What a ride it has been for Scooter's trade value.

Brewers fans giving Stearns no end of guff about letting him go. Then last year his name shows up everywhere in the midst of a breakout season, but Reds hold onto him. Now with injuries and poor performance on coming back, he's dealt for cash.

Meanwhile, Brewers have one of the hottest hitters in baseball at 2B.

Yea, what a strange career. Methodically comes up through the system, very consistent years with the Brewers. Picked up for nothing by the Reds, career year, now they get nothing but PTBN. Good luck being a GM, still so .uch luck invloved in all these decisions they make.

Yeah, but still, what were they waiting for last year? It's not like he was a future building block then when they could have gotten something for him.

I thought there was quite a bit of scuttlebutt last year around the trade deadline about the Reds wanting to extend him? We can talk about Aguilar all we want, but Gennett was an All-Star last season as well, and was in some MVP conversations. And the Reds basically gave him away for nothing today.

The Reds are a weirdly run franchise.

I don't think they foresaw his injury this year. Also, they went on a buying binge for some reason last offseason and thought they had a good team or something.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
