I trade away whatever I need to to give myself a chance while I’m paying Yelich pennies.

They still can the next 3 years when we may have less holes to fill. This does not need to be an all in year with the Dodgers seemingly soooo far ahead pitching wise.

Totally agree these are the right types of moves this year.

Don't' forget he had no options either. So picking up his contract would've limited their options even more on the up and down moves they tend to make so often and is a part of their strategy. He'd have been locked in all year.

I would by no means think ATL is unbeatable, you have a great chance in that one. Then you cross your fingers the WC knocks of LAD, it's baseball. Crazy stuff happens all the time. You have to try when you're this close, MLB post season is by far the flukiest and most likely for underdogs winning of any non one game playoff system

Please tell me who you are cutting from the opening day pitching staff so that you may pay Jordan Lyles $2.5 million dollars.

Jacob Barnes, Alex Wilson and Taylor Williams were on the opening day roster.

Either Barnes or Williams. Both had options. Also would have made the Alex Wilson experience unnecessary.

Pittsburgh promised him a rotation spot. So the Brewers sticking him in the pen probably wasn’t his first choice.

Giving up a player for someone you willing let go 7 months ago...sheesh.

...giving up a Rule 5 -eligible, 25 year old RH reliever in his 2nd full year of pitching in AA, having now fallen out of the starting rotation there.

This strikes me as the profile of the type of player the Brewers could have lost from the organization last year if they had kept Lyles in the first place.

Milwaukee had a club option on Lyles.

Yes, this. Two to tango.

I don't think it's that absurd. Things happen. It made sense to let him go. I'd rather have someone admit they made a mistake and go get somebody they might need at a low price than be stubborn and refuse to do it to save face.

So you're one of the 3 people on that thread that were trumpeting his great start and suggesting the Brewers really messed up.

Then he crashed back down to earth. I'm happy to have him, he's a solid MLB arm with some potential to get hot.

And yet you're still banging this drum that we majorly screwed up even with his 5.35 ERA. Ok then.

Lyles was pretty good for the Crew and hopefully can go back to that. They should have kept him. Another guy they should have kept is Wade Miley. Maybe Stearns can get him back too.

OK so first of all everyone that has said this so far (and will continue to on this thread)...

Put yourself in December 2018 mindset. Assume that you at least understand the acquisition of Claudio. Remember that you had high hopes for Burnes.

I'll hang up and listen.

Taylor Williams? Jacob Barnes? They both pitched game #2 of the season. Its just a bungle of the roster. I don't care that they let him go (even if I disagree with it based on who replaced him), but to then give away talent to get him back is silly.
