2019-07-28: Cubs (Quintana) at Brewers (Davies) [Brewers lose, 11-4]

Eye Black
Davies will now be 1 and 3 with an era over 5 in his last eight starts

And Stearns stands pat with that and all our injuries...just bring up another AAA pitcher.

Brewers are pretenders at the management/ownership level. Money trumps success!

We cannot get to the postseason in successive years without blind luck with young guys or previously so-so players having career years.

Yes, we should trade all our bad minor league players for several stud major league players.

How about retaining Miley?

How about going after a free agent?

Wilkerson, Jackson, Burch Smith, etc ... not gonna do it!

Not sure why Arcia didn't stick with his 2 strike approach from the past. He could be a .290/325/700 hitter with it.

He's never going to slug enough to make this attempt work.

If there was something Arcia could do that would make him a .290 hitter, I'm sure he would do that thing. He's just not that good.

His quiet footed oppo 2 strike approach could make him at .290 hitter. He'd just be a singles and doubles at best guy. He also walked more waiting back on the pitch instead of trying to be a slugger. Guy had spells when that was working where he hit north of 300.

It's just gone for some freaking reason.

It feels like he would try to do his own thing and struggle. Then he starts to listen to the hitting coach and have a hot streak by staying back and going the other way. Which causes him to get a big head and go back to doing things his way and sucking again.

I dont know if that's actually happening, but his approach is weird and maddening at the same time.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

Not gonna lie. When they did not offer Miley I wasn't to bummed by it . Figured that we had our three young guys that looked real promising, unfortunately only 1 has panned out as a starter. I think we will see something happen tonight. Hindsight is easy.

Young guns...

I'd buy it. I've heard it time after time... Arcia hits a HR, well here comes a cold streak.

and F U Happ. 3 BBs and you turn on the ump for the called 3rd strike when it clipped the edge.

Man, this place was great the past couple of days. Now we are back to this crap. Lovely. :rolleyes

If you are expecting rational discourse, the in game thread during a bad loss is not the place to go.

I know but it honestly comes from a select few that can’t watch a baseball game and not go all emotional every time something doesn’t go our way. Look back through the IGT’s over the past few games and you’ll notice a select few are missing from the discussions and things were great. They come out of the woodwork frequently and often as of late and it just drags this place down so much. It’s just a shame. But you are right.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Stinks that Hiura’s hitting streak is going to end. Unless they rally up in the 9th.

People should be bipolar about this team. They are contending for the division and they have 3 relievers and 3 starters at the moment? You get excited when the cream of the crop carries the team to another win. Reality sinks in when they don't.

Buy or sell, this team is a long long way from winning anything significant this year. Unless of course, STL and CHI give it to them.

TJseven7 ... you nailed it!

I know, it's exactly where I am. Fandom is rooting for every win. Realist is screaming this isn't our year and it would suck to watch Moose and Grandal kept if a good offer is there for them.

I'm in that terrible spot of we should buy and sell. Sell blue chip expirings, buy rental filler with rule 5 unprotected MiLBers.

Can't win them all, cubs got timely hits today , took advantage of walks and some shoddy defense. I'll take two.

Tuff spot for Stearns . We have a few glaring holes and quite frankly not alot of ammo to work with. Two weeks ago I was on the sell bandwagon, I think maybe with a couple of small additions we can stay in this until the end then u never know !

Hoping we see a move or two tonight (speculation) at the very least it is alot of fun being in contention. It wasn't always this way in the past.

The difference between Braun and Gamel/Grisham would be so insignificant. The salary is not.

It's not like we get out of Braun's salary if we cut him.

I'm aware, but it was a wish.. so that salary dump was also part of my wish. :laughing

Meh. Offense had a bad day overall, yet somehow managed 4 runs. Not a good day from the pitching/defense, but I will say that they were very unlucky to give up 11 runs to 12 baserunners (7 hits, 4 walks, 1 HBP). Requires exactly the right (or wrong...) sequencing to turn out that way. More "normal" luck would still see the Brewers lose most of the time in a game like this, but I wouldn't really put much weight onto the 11 runs.

2 out of 3 against the Cubs is very good. The emotional side of me still feels that todays game, despite the above, killed the mood.
