Another terrible outing for Jimmy........hope he agrees to go down because we have no place for him anywhere on our major league staff the way he is pitching.

I just feel bad for him. I thought that he looked like he'd totally lost what made him great when he came back, but the way that off-speed pitch was moving, I thought he could maybe be a serviceable starter. I'm hoping he just goes back on the 60 day and spends from now until next year just rehabbing that arm, going back to whatever delivery he had that he changed(I really couldn't see a difference, but they said he changed it) and try again next year as a NRI.

Jimmy is likely done. It sucks for him and it sucks for the franchise.

Think about that, this franchise lost an ace starter and quite possibly a spot in the World Series last year because silly traditions like the pitcher batting are just so important.

I do not buy that. It was a fluke. A 26-year-old athlete should be able to run without falling down on his shoulder.

There are supposed to be modern-day athletes, right? Bigger, faster, stronger....

It sucks all the same, but I don't care that it was running the bases. A fluke is a fluke to me. And then I know what people will say, "they're not used to it." Of course they are. They play the game their whole lives. The worst hitting pitchers were the best hitters on their teams or leagues growing up.

They hit in the minors and then they hit in the big leagues.

But anyway, it really does suck for him. Imagine putting in the work he's put in, the time and you finally get there. You're "that dude," and you lose your footing and dive back into 1st and jam your shoulder. And you know he knew it right away. He MIGHT not have known just how bad, but he knew he hurt something. He was trying to lie to himself. And he went from a guy who could easily have made 100 million in his career to a guy who probably won't be back on the 25 this year, and really could end up seeing his career ending over this.

Have you seen 90% of pitchers try to bat? Modern day athletes indeed...

Anyway, agree to disagree. I guess my point is regardless of what Jimmy should or should not have been able to do is that it's hard to dispute that if there's a DH that day, the injury likely never happens.

I get that people have differing opinions on pitchers batting and I probably shouldn't refer to it as silly, but the one thing I do not like is the difference of rules between the leagues. I would rather it be the same across the board so AL teams are subject to the same risks, and we all know the pitcher batting is never coming to the AL.

It may be time to find a spot on the 40 and 25 man roster for Trent Grisham. I know his bat isn't Hiura, but his production is becoming impossible to ignore.

The problem is finding a spot for him. You don't want him on the bench as a 4th or 5th OF, if you bring him up he's playing every day.

The only possible solution I can think is if Aguilar gets dealt to someone like the Rays. Then you could in theory move Braun back to 1st in a soft platoon with Thames.

The Brewers probably need to consider a DFA for Nelson as they won't be paying him arbitration next year. Lots of minor leaguers not on the 40 man that could help in September.

Sadly, I think this is something that is becoming much more likely. That $4 million could be used on a solid bullpen arm or back of the rotation guy instead of risking it on a guy hoping that he finds himself again 3 years after his injury.

San Antonio Pre-Game Media Notes

Box: San Antonio 10, Omaha 6, called due to rain with one out in the bottom of the 9th

Catcher David Freitas has a career .802 minor league OPS, but even in this year's insane AAA environment, nobody can wrap their heads around a .371/.451/.532 line, right?

RHP Zack Brown spent nearly two full weeks refining things in Maryvale in July (on the Inactive List from the 9th to the 24th). His box score line here reflects some progress, but work to be done - 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 1 HBP, 3 K.

To your first point, yes. I remember watching Woody take Kershaw deep! But seriously, your point is taken, pitchers are usually awful hitters.

Anyway, I agree with your post. What's unquestionably silly is having two different sets of rules. That's...absurd in Major League Sports. Either add the DH to the NL or eliminate it from the AL.

This was Saturday's game:

Speaking of hurts --

Box: Grand Junction 10, Rocky Mountain 9, ten innings

Alternative box includes inning-by-inning linescore

Vibes led 9-2 at the 7th inning stretch.

Eight errors by the Rockies, including four by their shortstop:

E: Horn (1, pickoff); Isaacs (1, fielding); Carreras 4 (12, throw, throw, throw, throw); Koss (3, throw); Navarro (10, throw).

RHP Carlos Luna is 6th in the Pioneer League in WHIP at 1.17.

Jess Williams played first base for the first time in his pro career (in Ernesto Martinez' absence after Friday's on-field collision injury). Williams was 4-for-5 with a home run.

No formal summary from the Vibes' perspective, but on top of it all, they were walked off in the rain.

Quite a bit of video is now available from this wild contest.

Final: AZL Dodgers Lasorda 4, AZL Brewers Blue 3

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

The Blues came from behind twice but were walked off on a throwing error by young catcher Darrien Miller. The error came on strike three for what would have been the final out of the ninth, but the throwdown to first base was erroneous. This was the second time an AZL team has been walked off on a catcher throwing error, as the Golds lost earlier in the season on a Roberto Molina throw.

The offense managed but four hits, two of them by ninth-place hitter Danny Casals. One of the two Casals hits was his first pro home run, which scored two of the three Blue runs. Casals drove in the third run as well, with a sac fly in the 9th.

Alexis Ramirez started and allowed two runs in four innings. His ERA isn't pretty, but I have heard a number of nice reports on him this summer.

Jeyner Baez was the final pitcher to pitch for the Blues last night and came in for the final batter. He struck the batter out, but given the error that occurred, he winds up with the extremely odd line of no innings pitched, one strikeout. Good way to boost your K/9 anyway.

Final: AZL Brewers Gold 3, AZL Indians Red 2

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

The Golds were being no-hit into the 8th inning and only ever managed two hits but thanks to twelve Indians walks, they never trailed and ended up winning it in the 11th on an Aaron Familia walk-off single. Pablo Abreu had the first (and other) hit of the night, an eighth-inning single; everyone had at least one walk except for Zane Zurbrugg.

A trio of Gold pitchers all threw well. Starter Joey Matulovich made his best start of the year, pitching four innings of one-run ball, striking out eight against no walks. Hooooopefully we'll see him in Wisconsin before too long. He's not technically on a rehab assignment so there's no clock on his time in Arizona. Santiago Elizondo and Ian Exposito combined to allow one run over the final seven innings. Check out their pitching lines.

AZL Brewers Gold Game Log

The first hit:

AZL Brewers Gold Bottom of the 8th

Pitching Change: Jacob Forrester replaces Samuel Vasquez.

Oswel Leones strikes out on a foul tip.

Daniel Castillo walks.

Pablo Abreu singles on a line drive to left fielder Cesar Idrogo. Daniel Castillo to 2nd.

Mound Visit.

Wild pitch by pitcher Jacob Forrester. Daniel Castillo to 3rd. Pablo Abreu to 2nd.

Felix Valerio walks.

Mound Visit.

Pitching Change: Kevin Coulter replaces Jacob Forrester.

Ashton McGee grounds into a double play, shortstop Yordys Valdes to second baseman Gaspar Palacio to first baseman Joe Naranjo. Felix Valerio out at 2nd. Ashton McGee out at 1st.

The game:

AZL Brewers Gold Bottom of the 11th

Ashton McGee starts inning at 2nd base.

Kevin Coulter intentionally walks Francis Florentino.

Roberto Molina ground bunts into a force out, first baseman Joe Naranjo to third baseman Jothson Flores. Ashton McGee out at 3rd. Francis Florentino to 2nd. Roberto Molina to 1st.

Aaron Familia singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jean Montero. Francis Florentino scores. Roberto Molina to 3rd.

Even if he's not up until Sept(though I agree, it's been a really long sustained run now) this is one of the best stories of the season for the Brewers. The way he, Turang and then obviously Hiura have come along as young players is exciting.

He was an interesting prospect before this Bondsian outburst because of his ability to get on base. The enormous change in his stance and swing, it seems like the only thing it's done is to make him more aggressive in the strike zone while maintaining his plate discipline.
