Final: DSL Brewers 10, DSL Rangers2 4

DSL Brewers Box Score

Fourth win in a row and third game scoring in double digits. More good stuff up and down the lineup as everyone gets a hit, Alberis Ferrer homers twice, Eduarqui Fernandez hits his record-setting 8th home run as part of a three-hit day, and Jesus Parra knocked two more doubles. Sebastian Burciaga and Alejandro Marte both contributed a single and a double. The Brewers have managed to put together a good DSL offense for what seems like the first time in their history.

DSL Brewer pitchers allowed only one earned run, by starter Oscar Castaneda during his six innings on the mound. Castaneda's ERA is 2.29 after 8 starts in his first professional year of ball. Junior Montero threw 2 1/3 scoreless to notch his 4th save.

Final: AZL Brewers Blue 4, AZL Royals 0

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

The Blues recorded their 5th shutout of the year. They are 11-19, so quite bizarrely almost half of their wins have come on shutouts, yet they have not been the victims of a shutout this year. Baseball.

Three pitchers combined for the shutout: Karlos Morales making a rehab start (1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K), Nick Belzer (7 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K), and Keegan McCarville (1 IP, 1 H).

Cam Devanney hit his second pro long ball in the 4th, which is all the cushion the Blues would need. Arbert Cipion singled, doubled, and walked.

Final: AZL Giants Orange 4, AZL Brewers Gold 3

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

Despite allowing no runs after the second innings, Gold pitchers allowed enough runs before the third inning to keep the game out of reach for an anemic offense. Francis Florentino had a two-hit night with a double. Josh Shapiro, Zach Vennaro, and Jose Parra combined to blank Giant hitters in five innings of relief.

Kernels Pop Past Rattlers 4-3

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Two late unearned runs sink the Rattlers. Ouch.

Logan Gillaspie keeps on keeping on. This was his 8th quality start in 13* games started this year. *We're not counting the 2 IP on 6/16 right before the All-Star break.

From the Sidelines: Pacific Coast League is gone from Colorado Springs with the Sky Sox

By Danny Summers, Colorado Springs Gazette

For 31 seasons, Pikes Peak area baseball fans had the benefit of watching high-level Triple-A baseball, via the former Sky Sox, in their own backyard. And, when the Sky Sox left, in the blink of an eye it was gone, probably never to be seen around these parts again.

I recently had a revealing conversation with longtime Pacific Coast League President Branch Barrett Rickey, aka Branch Rickey III — the grandson of the famous baseball pioneer — about the state of baseball in our area and in the league he has ruled over since 1998.

The story continues from there...

Mudcats' Bats Quiet in 1-0 Loss in Kinston

Carolina fell to 6-6 in shutouts with Wednesday's series opening 1-0 loss in Kinston

The glasses, the facial hair, Aaron Ashby just has a very projectable MLB "look", doesn't he? Thankfully talent seems to match. kudos, Matt Hardy, stranding two of Ashby's baserunners.
