Taylor Williams recalled; Burch Smith optioned

djoctagone

taylor williams rejoins the big league club, with burch smith optioned to san antonio. williams was often passed over by recently optioned pitchers replacing a player placed on the injured list (in which the 10-day requisite stay in the minors is null).

from an organizational depth standpoint, it made sense for the likes of burch smith and corbin burnes to be recalled while they had yet to fulfill their 10-day requisite stay, but it also meant that williams was often passed over.

class aaa opponents have batted just .163 against williams this season, and he's struck out 45 in 40+ innings.

williams is out of minor league options entering 2020 spring training.

Hopefully Williams is ready to finally do his job consistently.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Well...he doesn't have much time left. He's got the stuff, but he just hasn't gotten it done.

I am curious why we're waiting on Devin Williams. The season is hanging in the balance and the results over the next few days will determine if we sell, buy or stand still.

Taylor Williams is the type of guy who it seems like we should be throwing out there regularly(along with Shaw, Aguilar, maybe Burnes) if we decide to sell a few guys and chose to reload for next year.

Since Devin Williams isn’t on the 40-man roster they would have to DFA someone in order to add him. Not saying they couldn’t do it, but I would guess they won’t make that sort of move until after the trade deadline when they have a more concrete idea of how other transactions have affected the overall roster. I am very intrigued to see Williams get a chance at some point, but I also remain a little cautious about anybody who hasn’t yet thrown the “juiced” ball being used at Triple-A or the Majors this season.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
