Brewers new bag policy

I didn't know where else to put this but I found it interesting. I personally love it, but I also never carry a bag into the game. That said...I suspect this is going to seriously piss off a significant portion of the fan base initially. How many people are initially going to get sent to put their purse/backpack back in their car? They probably need to have like a 1 month grace period where fans can enter, but are told next time they won't be allowed.

Long overdue. There are people that bring their kitchen into the game. This is fine. A drawstring backpack is enough space to pack lunch. If you read the policy, they are still being quite generous with what you can bring in. But whiners hate change, so I assume everyone on social media is crying loudly about it.

I like the change. The Brewers gave way too much leeway with this and it backfired. Glad they’re correcting it.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Probably still a giant waste a time at the end of the day. If you want to smuggle something in just put a false bottom in your bag and BOOM...in you go.

The whole process is joke when it comes to effort. All they do is stab the inside of your bag a few times with a mini bat.

Yeah I just went and looked, what a bunch of whiners. And then they blame security people for being incompetent, unreal. It's far more common for an incompetent fan to get to the front of the line and realize they need to empty their pockets...rather than having them empty when they get to the front of the line.

I also read the new policy, it's really not prohibitive at all. If I ever bring stuff in to the park, it's usually a bag of peanuts and a water or soda in a pick n save bag. Takes them all of 2 seconds to see everythign I have is fine...while with a backpack they need you to unzip 3-4 pockets and look in cramped compartments. I'll also add this new policy is definitely better from a security standpoint. Much more difficult for the wrong person to sneak in something bad in a hidden backpack compartment with the new policy.

I mean the only time I've ever had congestion is when I show up at 1:08 for a 1:10 start on Sunday. If I show up at 12:50 I am usually in pretty fast. Some gates are much worse than others. I'm almost always coming in from right field and it's usually dead.

They do stop the line for the anthem, which I've never seen anywhere else. It's just the rush of people coming in at start time - 2nd inning that causes the logjam of folks. And many of those people are drunk, setting off the detectors, etc.

I suspect this will affect women more than men, and families with kids more than adults going in by themselves. So whatever negative impact this makes will probably not affect me.

Instead of spending more on screeners and scanners, they're forcing fans to change their gameday habits. I don't like that part.

I'm OK with it, when i bring a cooler or backpack once i started going with kids, it literally took a good minute to go through all of the zippers. it adds up quickly to get people in and out. no reason you can't bring stuff in a no side pocket zipper cooler or a knapsack.

Purses and backpacks with 10 different compartments are the easiest for the wrong person to sneak in the wrong thing, as well as the most time consuming item to check.

There also is only a finite amount of space/doors people can enter from. And frankly, fans are the reason the process moves so slowly...so logically any change made should be made by the fans and not security anyways.

Diaper bags are still allowed so not restricting families with young children. I have brought a backpack from time to time but not much of an adjustment to bring something with no zippers. Can still bring a couple bottled waters and sodas along with peanuts in a smaller bag.

I find it interesting the Brewers carry-in policy is still more liberal than the T Rats. You can't even bring in a bag of peanuts at that stadium.

Oh, this is what the Brewers are working towards.... of course.

I’m fine with the change in policy, but is this really going to cut down on screening time per individual? They’re still letting people bring in bags — just slightly smaller bags.

At some gates, there’s not enough room between the metal detectors and the ticket scanners. There’s probably not enough metal detectors on busy days too.

It's always struck me as odd that you can bring any food at all into the stadium. You can't do that at Lambeau.

So they announce this today? Why? It's not policy until 2020. Is this their way of getting people to switch types of bags this year? Doing it a few days before the Cubs series to help flow?

I completely understand letting people know at some point, and well before they enact the policy. I tend to think maybe it very recently got approved and they just decided to roll it out without any thought to the specific day.

Space is not an issue. The building is an island in a parking lot sea. They could add a dozen more screening stations by just bumping the whole screening process out several feet from the stadium, and then have controlled queues into the actual building.

If they're trying to expedite entrance into the building, there are things they could do themselves instead of forcing fans to make all the changes. But that would cost real money.

And lots of people will be unaffected by this, or will even benefit from their new bag policy. So maybe it's a wash. But not everyone will benefit. And the Brewers are putting it on families to alter their routines to go to games.

As someone who has traveled in the past with a tiny kid, there are lots of things that one must carry to make that a favorable experience. The Brewers just made that more difficult.

Diaper bags are still allowed, per the press release.

I loved the comment on twitter: "Does this mean cargo shorts aren't allowed?" LOL!

I think this is a fine idea, to be honest. I don't get to many games at Miller Park since I'm in Arizona but I think it's a good idea. Personally, it would never affect me as I usually bring nothing in with me to a game except for keys, phone, and wallet. And I usually get in way before first pitch so I'm definitely beating the rush at game-time (which I've never understood, but to each their own.)

Just because a kid is toilet trained doesn't mean he/she doesn't need books, snacks, electronics, toys to stay entertained for 3 hours. Those giant tote bags that moms and dads haul around are pretty essential.

I’m not huge on parents bringing in kids that are not ready to watch a ball game to begin with so I’m good with the change.

I agree with this.

People complained the lines take too long, but many of these people get to the gates a minute before for first pitch.
