Rules Question

Didn't think this dealt with the Major Leagues, so I thought I'd put the question here. I saw something I had not seen before. Wondering what the rule is.

 

High school level baseball --

 

Runner delay steal of second base. Second baseman gets to the base on the run and gets the throw and uses a sweep tag in between the base and the runner. Glove is between the runner's foot and the base, but because of the sweep tag, the second baseman's hand comes out of the glove because the runner's foot was on the glove. The runner stops with his foot on the glove with the ball in the glove.

 

Ruling: safe because the fielder did not maintain control of the ball.

 

A weird one, but I thought the ump made the correct call.

Don't know what the "official" ruling should be but that sounds acceptable to me.

Correct. Much like a catcher who loses his glove in a collision or if the player runs, hits the gloves, and it comes off.
