2019-07-20: Brewers (Gonzalez) at Diamondbacks (Greinke) [Brewers win, 8-3 -- Bullpen delivers 5 scoreless innings in comeback win]

Eye Black
Wow, 'Stache is on fire tonight.

Take a look at the ballot in which Aaron was NOT a unanimous choice, and keep in mind that only 10 votes are allowed and once a player does not receive a certain percentage of votes he is not on the ballot for the next year.

So, basically a few writers left Aaron off their ballot not because they thought he wasn't worthy, or that they were racists, but because they knew he'd get in anyway and decided to use their 10 votes for other guys to give them a chance to stay on the ballot.

I was spitballing when I suggested that Aaron might have been left off a ballot or two due to racism, based on knowledge of the hate mail Aaron received when he was about to pass Ruth. It seemed plausible that one or two voters might shun him, at least on the first ballot, for reasons beyond his worthiness.

Honest question, do you have something to back this, ie statements from voters in 1982 to that effect? I can understand that thinking, and I'm not doubting you. I'd just believe that would make for fascinating reading.

That being said, it still seems weird to me. If I'm given the responsibility to vote for players for the Hall of Fame, I'm not considering how other guys might vote. If a player is worthy of induction, he's going to be on the ballot long enough to get in. The threshold to remain on the ballot-5% is so low, that if you don't make that, you really shouldn't be on the next ballot. What's the rationale for not casting a ballot for Hank Aaron? "I'm going to give that spot to a player that is not as deserving, just to make sure he gets on the ballot again next year?" That seems a tad incongruous, to me. I would simply choose the ten men I felt were most deserving. And there's no guarantee that I'd even select ten guys. But there's no way I could leave Hank Aaron off my ballot, if I had a vote back then.

There are three things America will be known for 2000 years from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz music and baseball. They're the three most beautifully designed things this culture has ever produced. Gerald Early

How many times do you see a team have men on second and third with one out and their number 6 hitter coming up and they have virtually no chance of scoring a run?

This is this season in a nutshell. :(

Aguilar already barely gets at bats. Shaw comes up and takes more away from him.

Idk, if anyone else notice how hot Jesus is playing. Playing better then Thames. Over 17 games or whatever. He needs to play more.

Thames has been pretty hot at the plate too.

Brewers pen has been lights out so far Let's keep it rollin

So many of our pitching prospects have excelled in the pen as opposed to the rotation. Started with Hader, now Peralta, Houser, even Burnes with more success in the pen. Financially would be more productive if these guys settle into the rotation at some point, but sure looks good as relievers now.

Maybe if we are buyers later on we can concentrate on getting a starter and leave these guys in the pen?

Regardless of what happens the rest of the year the fact that Yelich is the best player in baseball is fun.

He has been a real treat to watch and it is too cool that he plays for us. :) In FL we get all of the Marlins games and I watched him often back then. He was good but I never dreamed he'd turn into this when we made that trade!

Brewers 1-6 OPS'

Grandal .870

Yelich 1.157

Braun .805

Moose .895

Hiura .986

Thames .893

That's LETHAL.

What about Huira 3rd Braun 5th?

Can I get your thought process, when putting the lineup in that order? Not saying it's bad at all.

I've been advocating putting Yeli 3rd for a while now.
