BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects - 2019 Mid-Season Edition - Voting is now closed

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

Friends and Romans and Countrymen, we would like to invite everyone to take part in the 2019 Mid-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting.

Voting is now open. You need to submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting.

Voting concludes on Sunday, August 11. You can change your votes at anytime through that date.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

With more than 130 ABs, Keston Hiura has graduated from prospect status. This means he will NOT be eligible for our latest poll.

Recently acquired Ray Black is NOT eligible for for our prospect list as he has more than 45 days of major league experience.

RULES

1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on August 8, 2019. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion. I appreciate it you would number them. Also, please list your players from #1 to #25.

2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included.

3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25. This way if a guy you vote for is released or traded, or you list someone twice, or whatever, we can just bump up your next player.

4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc.

4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread via the edit function. I'll accept changes up to the deadline.

5. Within a week or so after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25.

Eligibility guidelines:

Rookie eligibility is determined by the same standards as MLB:

“A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).”

- Players graduated from list: Keston Hiura, Adrian Houser

- Eligible players with ML experience: Aaron Wilkerson, Nate Orf, Jacob Nottingham, Mauricio Dubon, Jay Jackson

Players no longer in organization

- Cody Ponce (traded to Pittsburgh)

- Mauricio Dubon (traded to SF)

- Marcos Diplan (sold to Minn)

We will add any other names here if someone is dealt or released.

New players in organization to consider

1st round pick Ethan Small, LHP

2nd round pick Antoine Kelly, LHP

We will add any other names here if someone is acquired.

Prospect Rankings:

Mid-season prospect reports are few and far between, but below are some pre-season reports. We will add others if they are made available in the next few weeks.

Here's my list.

1. RHP Trey Supak (9 in pre-season poll) - Dominated in AA, got a AAA promotion. Should be called up to help Brewers rotation.

2. LHP Aaron Ashby (2) - Showing 2018 flashes were for real.

3. OF Trent Grisham (24) - Has broken out big-time. Dominance at AA and AAA catapults him high.

4. C David Fry (12) - Performance at Wisconsin shows 2018 no fluke. Surprise versatility a plus.

5. OF Troy Stokes (3) - Two April DL stints, but OBP and other skills still there. .827 OPS in July warrants an injury mulligan.

6. LHP Cameron Roegner (1) - Missed time with injury, but last start was the type that got him top vote. Injury mulligan granted.

7. RHP Drew Rasmussen (unranked) - Has exploded as a right-handed Hader. CALL HIM UP!

8. C Mario Feliciano (unranked) - Breakout offensive performance, but would like to see better walk rate.

9. UT Weston Wilson (8) - showing power and versatility still.

10. LHP Scott Sunitsch (11) - Ashby is eye-popping, Small is the new kid, but Sunitsch is solid, and brings a 3.34 K/BB ratio.

11. RHP Zack Brown (6) - Fell off from dominating 2018. Something big is off, but holding out hope for a rebound.

12. RHP Alec Bettinger (unranked) - Came out of nowhere to emerge as a good prospect.

13. RHP Noah Zavolas (unranked) - The Brewers got a right-handed version of Brent Suter in the Domingo Santana trade.

14. OF Corey Ray (4) - Injuries derailed this season - but his drop is because Stokes has a more consistent record.

15. OF/1B Ryan Aguilar (18) - Added a hit tool to go with OBP skills, speed and pop. 70 walks with a month to go.

16. C/OF Cooper Hummel (15) - Average dropped, he missed time, but draws walks and has upped power.

17. SS Brice Turang (21) - Has speed, OBP skills, and hits for average. And playing at A+ at 19.

18. UT Gabriel Garcia (unranked) - Liked him in the past, and he's back on with very good OBP skills and power.

19. RHP Devin Williams (unranked) - Making a comeback from arm problems. What a comeback!

20. LHP Clayton Andrews (14) - Some falloff from 2018, but still solid. Also seeing OF time. Toolshed?

21. OF Tyrone Taylor (9) - Missed time with injury - again.

22. LHP Angel Perdomo (unranked) - The good: 14.16 K/9. The bad: K/BB ratio only 2.21. The ugly: 6.4 BB/9

23. RHP Henry Medina (23) - Limited time, but performing at 2018 clip. 4.00 K/BB ratio, 0.840 WHIP.

24. SS Cam Devanney (unranked) - More walks that strikeouts, a .317 average, and speed. Me likey.

25. RHP Dylan File (unranked) - Quietly emerging as a rotation prospect - 6.88 K/BB ratio.

26. RHP Max Lazar - Another one of those guys who don't blow you away, but know how to pitch.

27. C Payton Henry (30) - Put it this way... May need to be dealt in offseason to let Fry move up.

28. 1B Ernesto Wilson Martinez (unranked) - Was intrigued by walk numbers in past... interesting to see future development.

29. RHP Jon Olczak (19) - Fell off from breakout 2018. How much is reliever volatility?

30. 2B Victor Vargas (22) - Making jump from DR to AZ tough.

31. C/1B Jesus Chirinos (17) - Another huge dropoff in AZ from promising 2018 in DR.

32. 3B Lucas Erceg (10) - Patience is running out with Erceg.

33. SS/CF Korry Howell (unranked) - Showing mix of OBP and speed.

34. LHP Antoine Kelly (unranked) - 14.1 IP is just not quite enough to warrant higher ranking. Could be higher in postseason.

35. LHP Ethan Small (unranked) - 3 IP is too small for higher, but looks intriguing. Could jump big.

36. C/OF/1B Thomas Dillard (unranked) - Other than .218 average, much to like.

37. C Alex Hall (34) - The good: .304 batting average. The bad: Only 1 HR with Vibe. The ugly: 5 walks.

38. OF Tristen Lutz (16) - Struggling again with a .722 OPS.

39. UT Jess Williams (35) - Versatile, left-handed bat, but marginal offensively.

40. RHP Bowden Francis (unranked) - Could be a back-end starter.

Went to 40 this ballot, but see lots to like in the system, especially AA and below.

I'll kick it off! Top 75 this time around...

75 David Freitas C

Freitas is no longer a rookie because of his time in the majors. Not a concern here since he is ranked 75 here but others might vote for him since he is having such a great year.

1. Trent Grisham (OF) - I'm buying into Grisham's resurgence. The only debate at #1 was Grisham or Turang. I chose Grisham, because, he's comparable to Turang in terms of draft position and status as a high school draftee, just a different position several years later. And being almost exactly 3 years older than Turang, I think we'd be thrilled if Turang is producing as much as Grisham is doing in 3 years in AAA and appearing to be MLB ready, wouldn't we?

2. Brice Turang (SS) - A little lull on his promotion to High A, but seems to be coming around. Obviously far from a finished product, but definitely one that the fan base can be excited about.

3. Trey Supak (SP) - One of the quieter prospects in the system, Supak continues to produce.

4. Aaron Ashby (SP) - Long ways to go, but one of the higher upside arms in the system, especially as a LHP.

5. Corey Ray (OF) - I have a really hard time ranking Ray this high as it really isn't warranted, but it's a weak system. Still, he's coming off a nice, albeit high strikeout season. There's still time to figure things out.

6. Drew Rasmussen (SP) - Struggled a bit upon his promotion to Biloxi, but pitching better as of late. Like Ashby, one of the higher upside arms on the farm.

7. Tristen Lutz (OF) - The development here hasn't been linear, but when you look at where Grisham was 2 years ago and where he is now, you're reminded of how quickly that can change. Still one of the higher upside prospects in the system and one of the most breakout possible.

8. Devin Williams (RP) - Has made a nice home for himself in the Biloxi pen as a high leverage reliever with impressive 13 K/9 numbers and recently promoted to AAA. The Southern League is a pitcher's league, so it remains to be seen how he'll fare when inevitably promoted to Milwaukee.

9. Ethan Small (SP) - I'll be interested in his development, could be fast-tracked to help this club soon.

10. Mario Feliciano © - Probably the best producing of the young catchers in the Brewer system, he may unfortunately be the least likely to stick at the position.

11. Payton Henry © - Feliciano and Henry are fairly neck and neck in regard to prospect status.

12. Eduardo Garcia (SS) - Turang isn't the only one in the pipeline. Hopefully will start to put our international market in a better light.

13. Antoine Kelly (SP) - If there's another future Josh Hader in the system, this is the guy.

14. Micah Bello (OF) - Outperforming Gray in the Pioneer League thus far.

15. Bobby Wahl (RP) - Very nice return here for Broxton, and one of the many potential high upside pen arms we're going to be throwing at the wall in the next year to see what sticks.

16. Dylan File (SP) - Quietly continues to impress. Looking like the Zack Brown breakout pitcher of 2019, possibly.

17. Joe Gray (OF) - Strikeout concerns, but the tools are definitely there.

18. Lucas Erceg (3B) - Really seems to have hit a wall in his development. At some point you have to start considering that he's probably just not much of a prospect anymore.

19. Braden Webb (SP) - Looked like a guy headed for a breakout to start 2019, slowed upon his promotion to Biloxi, and currently injured.

20. Felix Valerio (IF) - While he continues to be knocked for being undersized, yet another piece of the Keon Broxton trade continues to produce at a very young age.

21. Jacob Nottinghamm © - It's a hunch at best, but I don't think the Brewers are sold that this is their backstop of the future. It's not out of the question for him to profile as backup C/1B/DH guy in the AL, but the bat needs to come around a bit more.

22. Alec Bettinger (SP) - Turning some heads now after a very slow start to 2019. 7 of his last 10 starts have gone 6 innings +, providing length that the MLB rotation has struggled with.

23. Pablo Abreu (OF) - Hard to believe it's been 3 years in the system, but he's still only 19. Whether or not he can stick in CF will likely define his future ranking fluctuation.

24. Eduardqui Garcia (OF) - Solid performance in the DSL, and he's only 17. If he can maintain it when he reaches Appleton or Carolina, he could skyrocket.

25. Nate Griep (RP) Relief prospects don't get enough love, particularly when they're 25. Still, Griep has performed consistently in the pen with every promotion in the minors, and if he can keep it up when he reaches San Antonio, he could be an option for the Brewer pen in the near future.

I plan to place Valerio in the 20 to 25 range as well. While I get he is undersized and unlikely to develop much power, he has shown the ability to put the bat on the ball thus far. An 18 year old who is stateside for the first time with a .381 OBP and 9% strikeout rate is at least encouraging.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

1. Trent Grisham - OF - I have been skeptical all year, but sooner or later a small sample just isn't a small sample anymore. The kid has found something, and there's a solid chance that by the time we do this again, he isn't going to be eligible.

2. Brice Turang - SS - A slick-fielding middle infielder who runs well and gets on base? Yes please! He's young enough that the power should come around.

3. Aaron Ashby - SP - Upside, upside upside! A legit lefty with TOR potential who should move quickly through the system.

4. Antoine Kelly - SP/RP - I love this pack back in June, and Kelly hasn't done anything to dissuade me. Probably the most upside of any pitcher in the system.

5. Tristen Lutz - OF - Perhaps has't put it all together as hoped, but there is just so much raw material there to work with. He's the type of guy that will shoot up national prospect rankings when he figures it out.

6. Ethan Small - SP - Nice pick as a polished college starter who could theoretically jump up quickly through the system. Perhaps not a #1-2 type ceiling, but he's got a pretty high floor as well.

7. Trey Supak - SP - Why he wasn't promoted to AAA months ago is one of the bigger mysteries of this season. All the guy has done since coming over in the original Broxton deal is produce. Doesn't have the "premium pitcher" look of someone like Woodruff, but gets the same kind of results.

8. Corey Ray - OF - Obviously the Brewers saw enough in Ray last year to make him their offensive player of the year. He's battled injury and inconsistency again this year, and has been passed up on the prospect radar by Grisham, but the tools are still there.

9. Drew Rasmussen - SP/RP - Major bullpen upside with a blistering fastball. Has lost a bit of helium from his hue early season showing, but still in line to possibly make an impact at the major league level as early as next year.

10. Devin Williams - RP - Another pen arm with a blistering fastball and high K/9 numbers. The Brewers definitely have a type with their pen prospects. If he doesn't make his MLB debut this year, I imagine we'll see him in 2020.

11. Jacob Nottingham - C - The results haven't been there as consistently in AAA this season, but he still profiles as the team's catcher of the future in my opinion. Definitely looks the part.

12. Zach Brown - SP - Has scuffled in AAA this season, which has been surprising after his dominant run last year. Still, the stuff is there, and he's young enough to rebound and put himself in the spotlight again.

13. Joe Gray - OF - Another "raw material" type who could shoot up national boards with strong play.

14. Eduardo Garcia - SS - He's 17, so he's likely to stay on the team's prospect radar for a long, long time. Still, he's got the raw skills and athleticism to dream on.

15. Mario Feliciano - C - Has always been aggressively promoted, which is somewhat rare for a catcher. Obviously the Brewers love him.

16. Je'Von Ward - OF - The Brewers have a type with their developmental outfielders, too. Raw, toolsy, and uber-athletic. He's yet another guy who could rocket up prospect boards with a break-out. Call it the Monte Harrison effect.

17. Payton Henry - C - Young, strong all-around catcher. The Brewers have a very nice amount of quality catching depth in the system right now. It will be fun to see these guys (Nottingham, Feliciano, Henry, Fry) fight to see who gets to Milwaukee.

18. Jacob Gatewood - 1B/3B - Perhaps it's simply because I desperately want this team to develop a 1B prospect. The raw power has always been there. Still waiting on, well, everything else.

19. Micah Bello - OF - Ok, so maybe not the toolsy type this team typically goes for, but the production has been there.

20. Clayton Andrews - RP/OF - Andrews is just a fun guy to root for, but he's also been very productive with both the bat and on the mound. Is he a legit MLB prospect? It's starting to look that way.

21. Pablo Abreu - OF - Another raw tools type. It sure is fun to dream on some of these guys.

22. Tyrone Taylor - OF - The original in the Brewers' "grab every OF with raw tools" philosophy. Had a very nice season in AAA last year, but injury and ineffectiveness have plagued him this year. He may be in danger of losing his 40-man roster spot. I hope that doesn't happen, as all the tools are still evident.

23. Miguel Sanchez - RP - Was the talk of Spring Training and considered nearly a lock to see MLB time at some point in 2019. Well, that hasn't happened due to his inconsistency. Still, you can't teach upper 90s stuff.

24. Thomas Jankins - SP - Holding his own in a very tough pitching environment in the PCL. He just turned 24, and could very well slot in as a back-end rotational type at the MLB level.

25. Angel Perdomo - RP - 65 Ks in 39 IP is great. 31 BBs isn't. Still, if he can someday figure out where the ball is going, you'd have yourself one heck of a lefty relief option.

26. Lucas Erceg - 3B

27. Zoah Zavolas - SP

28. Adam Hill - SP

29. Phil Bickford - RP

30. David Fry - C

Projections are based on my thoughts of feasibility to reach the bigs and where their potential may take them according to where they are in 2019 (and how they are trending based on past performances/scouts' expectations).

Making this list made me depressed. The system stinks.

1. Trent Grisham - A sad #1, but his 2019 numbers show he could be an everyday MLB outfielder. I hope the OBP translates to MLB and he adds some more power as he ages.

2. Brice Turang - Very high ceiling. Just not enough professional experience to put him ahead of Grisham.

3. Trey Supak - Looking like an MLB starter

4. Ethan Small - Could move through the system quickly.

5. Drew Rasmussen - I think he ends up being an MLB reliever.

6. Aaron Ashby - Continues to put up nice numbers.

7. Devin Williams - Once again a prospect.

8. Tristen Lutz - High ceiling if he figures it out.

9. Mario Feliciano - Catching prospect with some power.

10. Antoine Kelly- Triple digit fastball. High ceiling.

11. Felix Valerio - Tiny middle infielder who can hit. Sadly, low ceiling.

12. Zack Brown - Not sure what the deal is. I'm not ready to give up on him.

13. Bobby Wahl - Not sure if he qualifies. Big fastball.

14. Corey Ray. Yuck. If he wasn't a first rounder he wouldn't be in the top 20.

15. Eduardo Garcia - Nice to see the Brewers land a big-time international prospect.

16. Dylan File - 21st round to top 10 prospect? Maybe. 2019 has been his coming out party.

17. Thomas Jankins - Im honestly not sure what to make of Jankins.

18. Nate Griep - Herky jerky delivery and 94 mph fastball. Should have a shot at being an MLB reliever.

19. Jon Olczak - Doesnt walk people but developed a habit of giving up gopher balls at AAA.

20. Miguel Sanchez- Future big league reliever, of some sort.

21 Lucas Erceg - Another less than inspiring year for Erceg in the hitter friendly PCL.

22. Noah Zavolas - Next year will be a big year at Biloxi for Zavolas.

23. Clayton Andrews - As others have said. This guy is turning into a prospect.

24. Max Lazar - Excellent age 20 year at low-A.

25. Braden Webb - Way too many walks for the former 3rd rounder.

26. Angel Perdomo - Big lefty. Decent numbers but too many walks.

27. Payton Henry- Seems to develop a little more power each year.

28. Justin Jarvis - 19 year old pitching well at Wisconsin.

As always interesting to see how differently people weigh certain aspects like the defensive spectrum, starters vs relievers, age, proximity to majors, how much to value recent stats etc. And as always, some real headscratchers but I guess this thread is for voting and not discussing lists.
