How Nuts was 2008?

I was intrigued about the Brewers in 2003 and 2004 They still lost 90 games, but with Ned and a bunch of great young players on the way, it was going to be fun seeing the team get better. At a meet and greet with fans in the fall of 2003, Ned, Doug and Payne received standing ovations, remarkably, for a still bad team.

 

In 2005, I was energized with. .500 record.

In 2007, everyone was super pumped with a 24-12 start.

In 2008, everyone was thinking playoffs. I remember Mark A. saying 3 million fans and 90 wins at the start of the season.

 

Boy, was this season a big one, in my mind. The fans were now expecting the playoffs, and the crowds were nuts, both in number and energy. To put it into perspective, over half of the home games were official sellouts, with a streak of them from late July to Labor Day. That would include a bunch of weekdays and weeknights! Think about how difficult it is now to sellout any Monday or Tuesday night game!

 

Even though 2011 and 2018 playoffs were beyond great in terms of energy and fun at the ballpark, I don't think a regular season matches 2008 in terms of excitement (that last week was amazing, wasn't it?).

IDK, last year's finish was pretty magical. 2008 was cathartic for ending an embarrassing streak.

The only thing that is going to top 2018 is probably a World Series win.

 

They won 9/10 of their last regular season games (including 8 in a row). They clinched a postseason spot in the Cards house and then trucked over Detroit at home to force Game 163 to crowds well over 40k. They then trotted into Wrigley Field, beat a shocked Cubs team, and then celebrated in front of them and their fans. The Brewers then got to watch the Cubs sink the rest of the way down losing to the Rockies at home crushing their fans two days in a row. The Brewers then swept the Rockies in the NLDS to up their winning streak to 13 games over the course of the regular season and postseason.

 

Throw in the way Yelich ended the season and yah...doesn't get much more poetic than that.

It's close to me just because it had been 26 years without playoff baseball and the energy was off the charts. Throw in the Cubs playoff tie breaker and entire postseason, it's 2018 without a doubt.

There was an energy and enthusiasm for Brewers baseball in 2008 that will probably never be matched again. It was an incredible and unforgettable time to be a fan of the team.
