Guns at Miller Park

Not quite related but airport security really aggravates me and I travel quite a bit. The rules are not consistent anywhere. Take your shoes off here, but not here, I'm gonna scold you for leaving your wallet in your pocket even though the last city said don't take it out. Stroller has to come through the machine, next city, stroller comes through this special booth. Bin for your luggage but only in this city, nowhere else.

I think that's purposeful. They don't want the rules the same everywhere to make it harder to prepare to sneak something through.

From my experiences at games most people realize their pocket knife when they get in line and then realize it. Possibly due to seeing the signs by the door. Then they either have to go back to their car or...and I quote...are told to throw it in the trash. Those are the options.

Never seen someone realize they have their conceal carry on them though. I would question any surprisingly high number simply because getting to the point you are at the metal detector before realizing it is super unlikely to me. Usually dawns on people before then.

Also mace is probably the most popular confiscation. Those little key chain maces are not allowed. Which sorry, seems a bit ridiculous to take that.

Yeah if I am approaching a security line I am already thinking about what I have that might trip the detector, I sure don't want to be that guy holding the line up. I don't carry a gun but I don't see how that becomes something you forget about when I still remember keys and change in my pocket. If someone brings one up it is highly likely they are trying to sneak it past IMO. Unless they are already sloppy drunk but drunks with guns are probably a topic the mods don't want to talk about here so I will just assume that would never happen at Miller Park.

I feel like the answer has to be something like 1-2 guns per month max. I would say zero, but I get the impression from your question it's more than zero. I will say an old guy from a group of friends I was going with accidentally tried to enter a game with a pocket knife in his pocket. I first off think that is super rare, and also that a person is going to be far more aware of a concealed carry gun than a pocket knife.

No, people are creatures of habits. If you are always carrying something no matter if it is a gun, knife, mace, or anything else you are likely to forget you have it. A lot of times when I am carrying I forget I have mine on me.

Unless you are always showing your gun off you shouldn't even know it is there.

I would hope this is not the case. There are too many places that you aren't allowed to concealed carry. I also want to say you aren't allowed to drink a bunch and carry, but I'm not overly aware of the rules. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would like to think people carrying are very aware they have a deadly weapon on them when carrying...and therefore very few if any people would accidentally try to bring a weapon in to miller park.

This is definitely not the case. I have a CC (though I live in NC) and carry religiously, but I NEVER forget that I have a weapon and never walk into a sporting event having forgot I was carrying. One thing, if you are drinking and carrying you are just setting yourself up for liability. I would never, ever carry if I was going to be drinking. I don't care how much "in the right" you are, if you shoot someone drunk you are going to jail. In the state I live in its illegal to carry if you're drinking. Second, you're an idiot if you think shooting a gun in a crowded event that like that is going to be effective. Most folks are not sharpshooters (me included) and would probably hit more civilians than bad guys. It doesn't work like it does in the movies. Lastly, it may be illegal to carry into a sporting event. If so, no responsible CC would not know and just leave the gun at home or in the car if it can be locked up. Maybe others have a different view point but that would be mine. So, I'd bet the number is very low as well.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Missouri has similar conceal/carry laws, and one of the issues around Busch Stadium (which, unlike MKE, is downtown) is people breaking into cars looking for guns to steal. My hypothesis is that people are looking for people going back to their cars because they forgot to leave it there and then targeting those cars.

Considering that there are 81 home games, that I'd be surprised if 10% of fans even own guns much less handguns (rifles/hunting guns much more likely), the large number of families/children that go to games, and the large number of season ticket holders (who know not to bring guns with them), I'll guess it's not many and go with a dozen a year.

You're one guy. Even if most CCs do as you do, which I would guess, there will always be those who don't.

I'll agree with most of the responses. I would doubt people are trying to sneak them through. Its more likely they forget. Some people carry a gun with them everywhere they go. It is very easy to be talking to people and not even think about it as you go through security. I carry a multitool on my keychaine always. Over the years, I've probably lost five or six of them through security. At least twice at MP. In fact I just ordered a new one to replace the one I lost at the airport. I don't even give it a second thought.

To answer the OP, I'll guess 30 per year. A few per series

My biggest shock when I came back to Milwaukee for a game this season...what looked to be assault weapon yielding MPD officers. I am not weapons expert but that looked like an assault rifle/machine gun. I was absolutely floored by the fact the weapon was in their hands. Intimidating.

Yes this creeps me out every game I go to. They all seem to have fingers hovering over the trigger too

Warning Track Power, I’m not exactly sure how you would prefer them handling it other than in their hands. I’m honestly curious what you would prefer them to do with it if holding it is intimidating?

Brooks, if you were to hold a gun similar to the one that MPD is carrying, your hand would be holding the grip, which is right by the trigger. It may appear that their finger is hovering over the trigger since their hand is on the grip right next to the trigger, but that’s just where your hand has to be placed to be able to pull the trigger if needed. I can assure you that they aren’t just hovering their finger over the trigger. Their trigger finger (which is what you’re referring to) is resting above the trigger or on the trigger guard since that’s really the only way to in a way “relax” your hand when holding a rifle.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were 1-2 per game. Not so much sneaking one in, just forgetting about it. So ~100-150 per season.

I'll post the guy's response/answer now (before comments get out of hand):

The security guy said that is on average one or two a game. Madscientist was "on target" with this one.

Also, this question to the security guard was just about guns being snuck into the stadium. Knives and other weapons were not mentioned.

I would guess about 1 every 1 to 3 games. If you are carrying a gun and forget that you have it on you, that's irresponsible gun ownership. If you are carrying a gun and simply try to sneak it into a place that does not allow guns, that is irresponsible gun ownership. I live in Wisconsin so I know a fair amount of people who open carry or concealed carry, and I don't know any of them who would willingly admit to having ever forgotten that they were carrying a weapon.

So does that mean he finds 1-2 per game or is that all gates combined?

I would guess that a disproportionate number of people getting caught with a gun in security don't actually have a license.

I always thought those were squirt guns?

I suspect this is true as well.

1) Not carry them at all. There's no reason for police officers to have assault rifles around Miller Park.

2) Not actively carry them in their hands. Again, these things have shoulder straps, holsters, other ways to carry them. When these idiots walk around with these rifles in their hands POINTING THEM AT PEOPLE, they are displaying completely incorrect and inappropriate firearm safety.

I think we answered the original question. Time to lock this one up.
