Link Report for Tuesday 7/16 - Supak's no-no near miss (again)

And That

I'm guessing many of the pitching staff roster questions between AA and AAA sort themselves out over the next couple of weeks - either some of these arms are going to be trade bait and sent elsewhere for help at the MLB level, or if the Brewers actually sell pieces due to poor MLB performance some of the meh AAA pitchers are going to get called up to finish the MLB season off and guys in AA deserving of a promotion will get their feet wet in AAA until they reach their innings limits.

As long as these guys are healthy and pitching, I'm ok with there being a bit of a log jam for a few more weeks.

Final: AZL Reds 6, AZL Brewers Blue 2

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

Jackie Urbaez homered, Arbert Cipion tripled twice, and Andre Nnebe collected a single and a double in his pro debut, but the last five hitters in the lineup went a combined 1-19 with 9 Ks and the pitching staff issued a few too many free passes for their own good as the Blues fall to 9-14. An extra disappointing night for the offense as the Reds' team ERA coming into the game was over 7.50.

Pablo Garabitos continued to pitch well, allowing just a single in two innings of work. The converted outfielder now has an ERA under 4 on the year, with solid peripherals.

Final: AZL White Sox 3, AZL Brewers Gold 1

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

The Golds fall to 6-17, still tied for worst in the AZL. They haven't been a particularly awful team, just a seemingly endless string of things not going quite right. Zane Zurbrugg accounted for three of the offense's four hits, including a double. Easily the best day in the nascent career of the 27th rounder. The pitching was pretty good, though starter Brayan Salaya gave up 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He limited the damage though, allowing only two earned runs. Reliever Luis Contreras pitched the rest of the game, striking out seven without allowing any runs. Contreras now has 37 strikeouts in 19 2/3 AZL innings to begin his career.

Who the heck is Luis Contreras? I realize he is 23 and in low rookie ball, but he's from Venezuela, not a guy who pitched 3-4 years at a D-1 college. In 19.2 IP he's given up 11 hits, walked 8, and struck out 37 - that's 16.9 K/9.

I read that and it said nothing about his background, just "15 things you didn't know about me". I assume you didn't read it.

I don't give a crap that he liked the ending of Game of Thrones and hasn't played Fortnite.

I did; ok for you. What I learned is that he has pretty large hands - this is a good thing for a pitcher.

Here’s the the USBPL press release on his signing, with video included. Also from the transaction thread:

I mean what else do you need to know?!?!
