One of the more important July games you will find (from the Brewers perspective). I think the next seven games determine if Stearns is an aggressive buyer, conservative buyer, conservative seller or aggressive seller. A 5-2 run would very likely make the Brewers an aggressive buyer, whereas a 2-5 run would almost certainly put them in sell mode. Also a big start for Houser tonight, have to think he's the rotation's odd man out when Gonzalez returns. Hopefully he'll pitch well enough over his next couple starts to make that a difficult decision for Milwaukee.

With Hiura here and with Aguilar hitting the ball much better lately, I feel much more confident in this team barreling up against lefty pitchers. And I agree, Joseph ... this is a huge week to determine the direction of the team moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised to see some pen moves as well this week. If they were to acquire a couple pen arms, there is enough time to turn them around and deal them should things not go as planned and they decide to do a soft sell.

Is there a reason Woodruff, our best pitcher, is pitching on Tuesday- a full week after the All Star Game? This is quite different from Ned's/Doug's CC useage in 2008 when he pitched the Sun and Friday around the Break. He's not in CC's #1 type ace category yet, but he has been the Brewers best pitcher and arguably a top 10 pitcher in all of baseball the last two months.

If it's to limit his innings, I haven't heard this. Now, he lines up to pitch against the Braves, Dbacks, and the Cubs twice. My guess is that the two Cubs games pitched against the Cubs is the main reason. All I heard is a vague reason that Craig likes the team's pitching matchups after the break.

Woodruff is starting on Tuesday because it accounts to a skipped start without actually skipping a start. Basically the Brewers are trying to limit the amount of innings on Woodruff's arm this year. Having him start on Tuesday accomplishes this.

Plus he was the team's only pitcher who actually threw anything other than maintenance pitches over the All Star Break. Makes sense to give him the additional time.

I also heard that, in addition to the rest, starting Woodruff Tuesday sets him up to get starts in upcoming series against the Cubs and Cardinals.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

RHP Corbin Burnes placed on the 10-day injured list (right shoulder irritation). RHP Burch Smith recalled from Triple-A San Antonio.

Smith hasn't pitched in nine days, since his 2 IP / 5 ER outing in Pittsburgh. I guess he'll be re-filling the innings eater/ERA inflater role and exchanged after one appearance.

So instead of sending Burnes to AAA where he can get regular work, they are making up a phantom IL stint? Not to sound too conspiratorial, but the only thing hurt on Burnes is his ego.

I think it’s a solid idea to give him a mental break. They should send him an all inclusive resort somewhere in the Bahamas and the have him start games in AAA the rest of the way to find himself.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

He hit 99mph yesterday...every pitcher's shoulder can be classified as irritated the day after pitching, there's about a 99 percent chance this is a made up IL stint because their bullpen roster between AAA and mlb stinks. He could have gotten a break just by being optioned and not pitching - they pulled this IL stint crap because they know they'll need to make another pen move or two soon and want to keep roster flexibility.

I don't know if there's anything mlb can do about it, but this is for sure gaming the rules...

First time in a long time I can watch a game from the start, hope it’s a good one.

Oh boy, Birch Smith... Really nobody else in the minors they would prefer to give a shot to? Guessing just a 40 man reason.

Yo Adrian, Let’s Go!!!

I watched Counsel talk about this today...... he said at one point " you don't get better by not pitching" so you could tell this wasn't the Brewers making up an injury. Burnes says he is hurt.....doesn't sound too serious but it sure didnt sound like this was the Brewers idea....
