2019-07-14: Giants (Beede) at Brewers (Chacín) [Brewers lose, 8-3]

Eye Black
We simply don't have the prospects to patch the holes on this team. I keep trying to convince myself otherwise, but it's true. If you can't hold the Giants down, you can't hold anyone down.

Two of the three hits against Burnes on 0-2 pitches.

Yup, and look at the location on those pitches - meatballs. If Burnes can't command his stuff he's not a MLB pitcher. He's got to work from the fringe of the zone off the plate on those counts, and instead his pitches drift back to the meat of the zone. Doing it once every so often makes them mistake pitches, doing this consistently makes him a bad pitcher.

Are you kidding me with Burnes again in a tie game?? Fireable offense at this point. Ridiculous.

Who else are you going to go with? Everyone is getting slapped around lately.

You cannot pitch Burnes. Period. You are killing the team. You are killing his career. He can't get anyone out.

The question was who would you go with, not who you wouldn't. Your non answer speaks for itself.

Someone explain to me why burnes is on this team. Seriously. My god it takes them forever to figure stuff out. It’s absolutely killed the season. Sticking with Shaw and burnes and whatever numbskull

The pen will look unrecognizable in two weeks.

I get that pitching Burnes here is a bad call, but can we cool it on the fire Counsell crap? I mean my goodness, the hyperbole is crazy.

Who should we fire? David Stearns? Chris Hook? Corbin Burnes? All the starters who usually cannot get through the 6th inning? AlexClaudio? Albers? Somebody else? Saladino? Or should we just stand pat?

Nothing at all wrong with how they handled Shaw, guy hit 30+ HR two years in a row, you give that a lot of rope. Using Burnes in 2 tied games in this serious is Yostian though, no excuse at all for it. He probably shouldn't be on the team but if you have to keep him for whatever reason he should not be pitching in a close game unless every single pitcher has been used and your back is against the wall in the 9th or later.

What's the answer though? Just give games away like this? Ok.

Sell.

Stop with the sell BS...that is NOT going to happen. It just isn't. I don't want to see that brought up again. Mark A will never go for that and the fans would revolt. Period. End of story.

Not Burnes fault, he should have been in AAA throwing 100 pitches a game working on his pitches. Insanity.

Not burnes fault? Give me a break. He’s a grown man and gets paid to play a sport.

Quit making excuses for him

Dude, give me a break. You were the same one saying earlier this year when Burnes struggled that he didn't need to go down, that he could work through it up here as a high leverage reliever.

It is 100% his fault he isn't getting it done. Stop making excuses for him, he stinks this year, period. That's it.

Says the guy who continues to insist he'll be in the September playoff rotation. :rolleyes

It is Burnes' fault. He's paid to get outs. He isn't doing it. It can certainly be argued that management isn't putting him in a spot to succeed, but excluding him from all blame is a clear cop out.

This current bullpen situation is what happens when you don't have multiple shutdown guys in late innings, and the horse you need to ride 1+ innings to get saves (Hader) gives up a lead late in the middle of it. Total train wreck, because he's unavailable for several games after a loss and CC is forces to send other relievers out there in late game situations that have no business toeing the mound in those situations for a team that thinks it can contend.

Burnes was great last year in this role because he lived on the corners - this year he occasionally pitches there, but far too often he's in the hitters' happy zone with everything. And he doesn't have near enough movement on his fastball or even slider to get MLB hitters out when they can make contact. He either strikes guys out or gives up rockets.

It could definitely happen, we are on a pretty long slide here, you will see it brought up again if they don't turn this around.
