Happy 22nd Birthday to my 2018 Cape Cod League scouting subject (surely I convinced the Brewers to make sure they got him signed!) RHP Joey Matulovich. I allow Toby to join in my Joey-fandom as we await an eventual assignment to Wisconsin (or at least Rocky Mountain).

Also celebrating today is 18-year-old Maryvale infielder Luis Silva, brought stateside after just one DSL season.

Chris Mehring has done his part in his game summaries, but I've been very lax with my "DVR Alerts".

Saturday's Timber Rattlers game will be televised on CW-14 in Northeastern Wisconsin and on My-24 in Southeastern Wisconsin starting at 6:30 PM.

Schedules:

CW 14 to broadcast 15 Timber Rattlers games in 2019

Another strong start for Ashby. 7 innings 2 runs. Era now 2.32 for Carolina.

I was at the game tonight. Most of the Keys hitters were over-matched and Ashby didn't even look like he really had is best stuff (evidenced by 4BB vs. 3K). The Reyes double was really the only truly hard hit ball. I was surprised by Topa. I guess I hadn't really seen him pitch or wasn't paying attention if I had. He was sitting upper 90's and hit 99 several times. Didn't realize he threw that hard.

I know Feliciano didn't have a great game but when that dude squares it up the ball has a different sound. High hopes for that kid.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

This is the exact same thing I said on here two years ago after I saw him with TRats. He is really just one of those guys similar to Isan Diaz where it just sounds different of bat. At Wisconsin I don’t think he was as automatic with finding the barrel as Diaz but he was only 18 at the time.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

Brewers' Futures Game rep has roots of his power revival in St. Louis

Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

This is among the gold standard (no pun intended off the Cardinals' beat writer's last name) for feature articles. Goold informs us what Devin Williams thought he was going to be told about when he learned of his Futures Game assignment, but also his development, Tommy John travails, current repertoire (100 MPH) and so much more.

Look past 21-year-old Gabriel Garcia's .216 batting average (17 doubles, eight home runs, .352 OBP, can't look away from the 73 K's, however).

It doesn't appear we have a Vibes' game summary as of this post time.

At the box link, see which three pitchers combined to fan 11 while walking only one.

And as Oprah would say to the position players, "You get a base hit! And you get a base hit!" Four got two. And five extra-base knocks among them all.

Dig in.

Box: DSL Rangers #1 Squad 1, DSL Brewers/Indians 0

Aside from the bases on balls, 17-year-old rookie 6'3" Venezuelan RHP Edwin Jimenez has fared OK to begin his career. The relievers here are Indians' farmhands.

On "offense", just five singles, two walks, and 14 K's.

Henyer Gomez of the Indians had one of the hits, that will identify the other four with hits in the box as Brewers' players for you.

Stokes only hitting .213, but 11 doubles, 6 homers, and he's put up a .325 OBP with 26 walks in 178 ABs. Injury's knocked him down a little this season...

Final: AZL Padres1 7, AZL Brewers Gold 3

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

Pro debut for recent NDFA signee Matthew Mika, who along with Zane Zurbrugg got their first pro hits. Ashton McGee hit his first pro home run, and Corey Ray continued his rehab assignment. Top prospect Carlos Rodriguez made his season debut after sitting out the first part of short-season ball with an undisclosed injury. It's technically a rehab assignment for C-Rod, who is on the Timber Rattlers' IL.

The Gold pitching staff gave up 7 runs, walking 7 and striking out 7. Luis Contreras was the only pitcher to not give up a run, working two hitless innings. Contreras, an indy ball signee out of the United Shores Pro Baseball League, has been impressive. Through 10 1/3 innings pitched, he's allowed just two hits, while walking four and striking out 20. A trip to the Pioneer League should be in the offing for the 23-year-old.

Wuilder Rodriguez made his 4th rehab appearance as the starter. Joey Matulovich, who had been on the same game rehab schedule as Rodriguez, did not pitch, so we'll see if he's been held back from pitching again, or if he's on the move to a different affiliate.
