Every time you check Appleton's box score you see Turang doing something. 1 for 2 with his 21st stolen base tonight.

2-2 with 2 BB's last night and a HR.

I see what Grisham is doing and it's awesome...but a guy who can play SS/2B, can fly, takes a ton of walks, hits for a good average. Good battle going for top prospect with Keston graduating, Ray banged up and Brown struggling.

In terms of top prospect, is there any question that it's Turang? Ray's a top 5-10 kind of guy. Is Brown a top-10 guy? He's performed, but I've never seen anything to scream "top prospect." It's too bad Ray has been hurt. This would have been the year for him to be dealt at the deadline.

I didn't realize Turang was stealing so many bases. He's 21/25

Box: DSL Rays #2 Squad 9, DSL Brewers/Indians 8

Three-run co-op rally falls one run short in the 9th as the club drops to 8-19 on the season.

Quality start for the only Crew hurler in the game, 18-year-old 2nd-year Dominican RHP Leony Rosario.

Two Brewers had two hits, 17-year-old rookie Dominican 2B/3B Angel Bautista (DH'ing here), and 19-year-old 3rd-year Dominican 1B Elian Gonzalez (double, HBP).

All 15 of Bautista's hits thus far have been singles, and he's yet to walk in 65 AB's (just a .516 OPS). That really highlights sheer youth and an as-of-ye unpolished discipline.

Box: DSL Brewers 3, DSL Mets #2 Squad 1

Sweet mound work from 18-year-old 2nd-year Venezuelan starter Kleiber Bordones, who reigned in his base on ball tendencies here and now sports a 2.10 ERA over 25.1 innings. 19-year-old 6'4" rookie Dominican RHP Raymer Caridad finished up nicely.

All nine Brewer hits were singles but they also reached base six times by walk/HBP. Only one error.

Two more stolen bases for 18-year-old 2nd-year Dominican CF Reidy Mercado, now with 20 (2nd in the league, one behind the leader). Mercado's been caught six times.

Final: AZL Athletics Gold 11, AZL Brewers Blue 8 (10 innings)

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

A late comeback from the Blues was thwarted by an A's big two-out rally in the 10th, as the team falls to 5-8.

It's lucky the game was close at all as Blue pitchers combined to issue 14 walks and concede 13 hits, against only 5 strikeouts. Not going to go into the atrocity exhibition of the pitching lines here, but avert the eyes of young if they dare to look at it.

As for the offense, it was another solid day of taking walks (they drew 10 of them) and stealing bases (they stole 8 of them). The Blues lead the AZL in team steals with a whopping 27 in just 12 games. Cam Devanney stole 3 to push his season total to 9. Terence Doston, leading off for what I believe is the first time, stole 2 to push his season total to... 9. They are tied for the league lead.

Doston, who when he signed became one of the fastest guys in the organization with a sub-6.6 60, has a pretty respectable 680 OPS thru 11 games after doubling and walking on Tuesday. There's still a bunch of raw traits in his game as he transitions into becoming a full-time baseball player, but there is also a lot to be excited about.

Devanney went 3-3 with a walk, besides the stolen bases. Devanney nabbed all of 7 bases in three years at Elon, so we'll see where the pro stolen base totals go from here. Orveo Saint got two hits, Jackie Urbaez singled and walked thrice, while Arbert Cipion (not to be confused with Albert Ciprian, signed yesterday) walked twice and stole two bases.

Kevin Hardin returned to the lineup after being out for a few games with an apparent injury.

Final: AZL Brewers Gold 5, AZL Giants Black 3

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

Clearly dejected by their defeat in game one of the AZL Brewers Cup on Monday, the Golds lay an egg against the Reds (a common Brewers theme against the Reds on Tuesday, unfortunately). The team managed two singles, though they did walk seven times. They also managed four errors. Felix Valerio was responsible for one of the singles and one of the walks, which pushed his OPS to 840.

The pitching was pretty decent, actually. Starter Eli Nabholz allowed a run in three innings of work, striking out six. He was relieved by Josh Shapiro, who allowed one earned run in his two innings, striking out 4. Jose Parra pitched a clean eighth with a strikeout of his own.
