Caden Lemons

I have not heard anything on our former 2nd round pick and I'm not seeing any statistics associated with him this year on his MILB page. Does anyone have insight on what's going on with him? Seems like an awfully conservative plan they have with him assuming he's healthy.

Far as I know he's still with their AZL development program. I recall they were working with him last season extensively on a repeatable delivery - I don't think there's anything injury-related, but they obviously don't feel it's time for him to log extensive professional innings yet either.

Still a lot of ways Lemons can continue developing without showing up in Brewers' affiliate box scores - and there's actually lots of time for him left in 2019 to make some starts in AZL/Rookie ball/fall instructionals. I'd imagine they would hope to get him geared up for Helena or perhaps even low A starting in 2020, when he'll still be just 21 - he was drafted in the 2nd round because he had a huge arm and he had projectable physical traits that could make him a frontline starter. That said, Lemons is still a 6'6" gangly lotto ticket who might amount to zilch, because he was the opposite of a polished pitching prospect out of high school.

Technically Lemons now resides on the Timber Rattlers 7-day DL.

Until the rookie leagues began play, he would have been tucked away on one of their paper rosters.

When those teams began play, those roster spots need to be freed up.

So Lemons is hurting somehow, but he's not on the 60-day DL like many others, so we imagine he could (should?) see action this summer.

Has he ever thrown an inning of organized baseball since drafted?what a waste of a very high pick.

He has thrown 34 professional innings & is still only 20 years old.

The kid can't even get (legally) wasted yet, seems a little early to write it off as a wasted pick.

Even if he never ends up doing anything, I can't stand the "waste of a pick" mentality. I understand it, but what's the difference between him and Antoine Kelly? Similar profiles. Sometimes those prep arms develop, sometimes they don't. The draft alone is erratic enough, now talk about power prep arms with control issues and...c'mon, the odds get much lower there. Though they also often yield the highest rewards.

As a comp, Nash Walters is showing promise this year after a very long period of ramping up.

The problem is there is a clock running on the 40 man roster. If you spend a couple of years in witness protection and then two years in very low levels, it’s hard to tell much by the time they graduate to Rule 5 issues.

I saw on the Prospects1500 listing in the top 25 voting thread that Caden Lemons supposedly had Tommy John surgery. Has that been confirmed here? That was the first I'd seen it.

I saw that too, but I did a quick search and found nothing about Lemons and TJ. I'm guessing it's a mistake.
