I know Chacin isn't going anywhere but if he was 2018 Chacin the staff would look a lot better.

I don't disagree that Houser shouldn't be starting. But I say Peralta shouldn't be starting for the same reason.

If we hold Houser out of the rotation because he hasn't succeeded as a starter why haven't we gone to Wilkerson yet?

Peralta is young, has a track record of success as a starter going through the minors and has swing and miss stuff. For me, he has big upside still. Houser is who he is. That doesn’t mean he is terrible but he’s not good. He could be a decent BP arm.

Wilkerson is another guy that is just an arm. Sometimes I wonder why he’s a 40-man guy. He really isn’t any good.

My point is... Houser isn't a starter. Peralta really isn't a starter. He's been very average as a starter and out of the pen he's been another Hader.

If we want to contend we have to see what we are. Starter poor and pen dominant. The problem is we keep pushing pen guys into starter roles.

Give Wilkerson the ball 5 IP and if he has a decent day if you don't force non starts who are dominant pen pieces into the starting rotation the pen can lay waste to the last 4 innings.

When was the last Brewer to hit 2HRs in one inning?

Dave Nilsson in '96

Holy crap a Dave Nilsson reference. The dark days

Someone should start a cover band in Milwaukee and call it Dave Nilsson and the Ross River Fever.

Wish the Brewers had the guts to put Burnes back in the rotation. I think it’s pay off.

Me too! I said in a different thread that getting him settled into the rotation and throwing well is the equivalent of an acquisition only without giving up the prospects.

Disagree on Houser though, I think he’s got good enough stuff to be a starter.

Houser got beat on 2 changeups ......his stuff was fine.....just because a guy gives up a coup.e if homers in this band box doesn't mean he is tiring or a failed starter.

He pitched good tonight

And suddenly the pitching is not terrible again.

It's almost as if it can change inning by inning, out by out depending upon who is on the mound

There are enough talented arms to be good overall.

Non of my concerns with Houser are based on tonight and tonight alone. I didn’t like the move from the start.

This is what I’d like to see. But I’ll just take them winning in any fashion.

Something else to keep in mind with Houser & his role this year is IP.

78, 17 & 70 the last three years.

With a career high of 120 back in 2015 & 60 already this year I would imagine he gets phased out of the rotation & back to the pen at some point.

Ben Gamel has been scorching hot lately. Good to see.

The posts against Houser starting have me sort of perplexed. He started all through the minors didn’t he? I always thought of him as a SP prospect. I thought he was used in the pen out of necessity this year ala Woodruff and Burnes last year.

I think it all becomes a moot point once Gio is back. My guess is they go with

Woodruff

Davies

Chacin

Anderson

Gio

If that’s the case Houser helps deepen the pen. He’s got good stuff.

Augilar has missed a ton of hanging breaking balls this season.

Aguilar has missed a lot of balls this year period. Fastballs down the middle, hanging breaking balls, pitches way outside the zone. It is to the point where I was slightly impressed he hit a fly out to the outfield. He didn't strikeout or roll over a weak ground ball

Houser painting the corners with 2 seam and 4 seam curves and sliders, tires in the 6th because he’s not stretched YET, and you are calling him a failed starter?

He’s 2+ years past TJ, the crew protected him by bullpenning him and limiting his innings. Hes not a failed starter.

Thank God the brewers know where to put him > Rotation

Let me guess. Houser is the 7th Ace?

Didn’t call him an Ace. Mid-rotation or better is what I said. And a lot of people outside of this site agree. Scouts and the crew brain trust being a few.

He’s not goin anywhere, he’ll be in the rotation moving forward.

My point is... Houser isn't a starter.

He was a starter in the minors and made the majors at the age of 22, then lost two years to TJ. Why was he a starter before, but not now after TJ?

His stuff isn't good enough beyond the FB CB. It plays in the pen so leave him there.

True, but he is 26 now and it is July. They were very diligent in structuring his TJ rehab to gradually increase his pitches/outing. I don't think it is that much of a risk, and if he can get through 5 innings on ~60 pitches he will be able to pitch a lot more innings.

Another guy that it’s too bad there’s no option on. Not getting enough PT to really fix anything up with us and not doing a damn thing for us.

Lol, yep. That list could be real long. Hanging breaking balls, good breaking balls, fastballs, sliders, change ups, batting practice balls, prolly whiffle balls, and I’ve heard a tee ball at one point...

That’s your opinion, the brewers believe otherwise.
